Basically seems, in eight weeks, to have reached all the same conclusions Warbs did, and now wants a 34 year old centre back he's worked with before, released from Rangers.

Development brief?

Will the board sack Beale now for stunting the development of our own.

If this is true, why on earth was Warbs actually sacked

Weirdest thing about this is we actually have enough decent central defenders. If it was a striker or a wingback then I could maybe understand it.

If this happens then there really is no point having a DOF

Manager gets what manager wants bla bla bla

Does this mean there's little worthwhile talent in the academy at this point and MW was right all along?

Thread title is inviting for a cowboy pun thread. I heard some people have labelled Beale's style of play as "Howdy pressing".

Anyone surprised by any of this?

I never bought the notion that Warbs went because he refused to develop youth players; I may have missed when the club made that statement but more likely it was never made, it was a theory among fans.

Yet again, no quotes from this journalist and paper.

This is extremely poor journalism.

You can't get quotes if someone hasnt said anything publicly.

WLS and Dave Mc are extremely reliable and will have their sources

Duke McKenna, Masterson, Bettache, Gubbins, Bonne not even given a shot. And we're back to loaning in a whole new spine of the team. Our recruitment is woeful. Whatever system we're using needs a revamp.

Longtime lurker, first time poster here. I gasped when I saw the WLS article. Definitely a shift from the talking points when Beale was hired. No way we have the headroom to bring in all these players. And good luck offloading Johansen, who even as one of his last defenders, I don’t think his performances at his wages will attract any interest without us eating most of the cost.

McClaren (despite being a turd) says the youth players coming through are not good enough, Warbs says they’re not good enough, now Beale says they’re not good enough. Don’t think it’s so much a change of brief, but a case of ‘it’s not me it’s you’ becoming ‘f*&£ it is me’ within the club.

Uproar on this OTT on both sides - heads need to roll vs HMS wE aRe GoNnA PiSs ThE LeAgue if we sign a guy who scored a few goals for Preston (who everyone else wants)…

Fact remains: Belk and our policy of signing players who have fallen out of the system is our most fruitful and common way of trading (Willock, Eze, Chair, Amos, Richards, JCS, Dickie and on). We haven’t produced good homegrown players in my lifetime and that will never change with current youth structures - doesn’t matter what the PR spin doctors do at LR or WLS.

For me iit's about wasting money on loans and developing other clubs players

It's pissing money away. If we need players then we should be using our recruitment team not the Mangers mates

We just don't learn as a club and this time next year we will be back in the same positon.

Balogun is a waste of time and should not be signed. That could be some agent talk to try and get Balogun a move. They get desperate, agents for older players, as no one wants'em.

If, he can bring in youth with the option to sign at the end of the year, I like the idea of try before you buy. So, that's okay.

Also, I suspect this will be JoJo's last year with us, even though his contract has another year to go. Unless he brings his top game, game after game, then they will farm him out at the end of the season as he costs too much. Norway beckons for JoJo next year I would assume.

zzzzzzzzzz

The manager should learn basics of management (eg how to use a sub) before trying to completely gut and rebuild the team

What is the point of signing so many loan players? We develop other teams players at the detriment of our own contracted players, many of whom we are forced to sell at a discount bc other teams know we’re desperate to unload

If true this shows that Beale has no interest in actually developing the players we have- he just wants to bolster his own record… I would rather finish 17th while developing our own players in a financially sustainable way rather than finish 14th with a bunch of loanees who do nothing to help us improve the club

Also- it begs the question- how does Les Ferdinand justify his role?

Warbs wasn't sacked for not playing youngsters. He was sacked because results fell off a cliff and the owners lost patience. Simple as. Far, far too much has been made of a few comments and a bit of hearsay.

Bare bones.

This was first mentioned on 6th June. Same time we were linked with Parrott, Vaulks and Cochrane. Also Odubajo to West Brom. We all know how these turned out.

I can only assume this is just an assortment of every possible move we can make rather than ones that we're actively going for. Using our already minuscule budget signing a 34yo in a position where we have 3 quality players seems very daft.

This may just be me, but I also think our defending really hasn't been that bad and the main issue with our midfield has been that we've got three distinct roles, and the two players we have for one of them (Amos+Richards) are both currently injured.

We could definitely do with another striker (who couldn't) and, on loan at least whilst we wait for Amos and Richards to get back to full strength, a CM who can fill that role and cover for Field on the left would be good. But another CB seems silly, as does another backup keeper (although given last season, you can never have too many)

The question I would be asking is where does a 34 year old centre back play in a back four ?
Does he rate Dunne ? Appears not
It doesn’t take a football genius to work out our midfield is slow and crap and our strike force toothless, I’m actually happy a manager has seen this now rather around Christmas time

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

The brief is the brief, but if within eight weeks the new coach - who is a development specialist - has taken a proper measure of the talent available to him and decided that they can't be improved, then the brief has to change.

This doesn't feel like a case of 'what manager wants, manager gets', but more a reckoning of the true level of players coming through at this club.

Beale would have been able to see enough of the players to see who can develop and who is simply not, and never will be, the required standard.

For that reason alone, we can't rigidly stick to 'develop this lot, even if 80% of them will never improve'. The club will suffer even more for it.

It feels like we're now at a serious cross-roads to how we proceed. The Belk way seems the most logical, given the (relative) success we've had from it.

But is it pissing money away if it helps Willock / Chair / Amos shine and increase the potential to sell them?

Agree it shouldn’t be manager wants manager gets, but this is Beale’s first job; he is ambitious; he’s clearly not impressed by some of the current squad; he knows those former players will improve us and (shown by the reaction of our fans this season) he doesn’t have the time to piss around speculating that Connor Masterson might get good enough to play every week.

This isn’t Harry giving Hoddle a job or Hughes lining his agents pockets - I completely get Beale doing this and back it

He wasn't sacked, they just didn't negotiate a new contract for him so called it a day.
Fall outs behind the scenes and we parted ways.
Bit daft if you ask me( which you wasnt).
I think we've probably been punching above our weight for a while now. We've done well to maintain championship status but we can't progress while we have the current set up. Clearly its an issue.

Maybe that had something to do with Dieng and Willock being missing? We clearly cant cope without the latter, we'd struggle even more without the former. Sound familiar? "Get Rid" of a manager without two of his best three players for half a season, and nothing remotely comparable in back-up, for poor results. Genius.

Did you see the results 2nd half of the season - we were 23rd best or 2nd worst in the whole div.

We only had to be 17th or better and we would have been in the top 6 and he would still be here.
