PNE v Swansea City MATCHDAY TEAMS AND THREAD on 18:50 - Aug 28 by AndyCole | . Which of course is highly immature and not particularly intelligent management. Grimes and Fulton has been our backbone midfield for quite some time, and yet as you say even this combination is misfiring under Martine, most especially their disconnect with the backline - something which has been our core strength the past two seasons. Grimes our first outlet, then Fulton thru to Ayew at phase 2 has worked brilliantly. Gone with the bathwater, it seems. Why on earth change the things if they ain't broken. ? Worrying times. . . |
Worrying because we could have a manager whose ego outstrips his ability

They don’t have a disconnect with the backline. They are practically part of the backline, which is concerning. They have a disconnect with the attacking midfielders (if you count Cullen as that) and widemen because they are playing so deep. Things were broken. The Cooper way wouldn’t have worked without Ayew. Maybe for a game or two, but not for a season. Guehi was a big part of it too. I don’t know why he’s changed it so radically before bringing more players suited to his style in though. My only guess it’s that it’s going to be a couple of players in key positions and most of the current first team will still be playing. Possibly getting them used to his style early on rather than after the window, when we’ve hopefully got more players suited to it?
PNE v Swansea City MATCHDAY TEAMS AND THREAD on 19:14 - Aug 28 with 1719 views | jasper_T | We were lumping it into channels last season let's not pretend a Grimes/Fulton midfield was dominating the ball and playing back to front effectively week in week out. Post-match Martin blames tiredness, 7 games in 21 days for a squad that mostly hasn't had a preseason for various reasons. Two weeks to work with the vast majority of his first team now (Cooper, Manning... is Lowe away with Jamaica?), if it's as bad next game we can properly get the knives out.
PNE v Swansea City MATCHDAY TEAMS AND THREAD on 19:27 - Aug 28 with 1683 views | AndyCole | . Nobody's getting the knives out as we all want to get behind a winning formula. Some of us will challenge irrational decision making. Most especially irrational decision making under pressure which Martine has struggled with. Selection, subbing and tactical nous is acutely lacking . No signs, whatsoever of a winning formula. Plenty of signs of a losing, slick script. Which of course is highly frustrating when we're so accustomed to winning, pragmatic football. . .

Well,if Russy is not angered by that nonshow nor apologising for the away fans then he should knob off then. It was disgusting and nowt to do with Covid Injuries Sickness It was lack of effort, which was obviou and a pitiful attempt to play "pretty" football. Take some advice Russy. You need speed to play your system and yet you know off Joseph -who is fast and Whittaker -who can score. Bad decisions masked by BS . At least Cooper was banal .This fella looks more dangerous and more deluded..

Last week Martin said that they only got out on the grass together once. Up until now, they have spent mot of their time in the video room and analysis suite learning. Covid at the club stopped all that last week. 1 training session. RM been here 5 minutes and everything has been disrupted. Injuries, covid, loads of games. He isn't getting the time he needs with the players. Hopefully he can get a good couple of weeks, considering we have no internationals away.

. He's been here long enough to know his combinations. The backline (which he's sorted apparently, god forbid) is a million knots from what we've had under pragmatic, successful management. Award winning backline, kicked into touch by Maverick Martine. Another headline. All of the excuses you list are manageable with a cogent, intelligent strategy and game plan. None of which has ensued. Worrying times under such a rookie maverick. . .

Friend. Im not having that. Today saw lack of Desire Preston, trust me,were all over us and hounded us. Its why "possession" football as he sees it is warlocks. We possess it then give it away and then the opponent scores. We are so easy to play against Any team can see our keeper strokes it to full backs who are not Real Madrid standard and then give the ball away. We have a midfield that sees a silent captain in Grimes ,a player who passes backwards even when a forward pass is on. Their keeper had an easy day. He could have been served afternoon tea . No Swans players seemed to be as sweaty as us in the sunshine .

Aye, but they aren't playing Russy's football yet. He hasn't had time to even get started. With games Saturday/Tuesday, they only get to train together on the grass for one day. How the heck are they meant to know what they're doing yet?

And they wont play Russy football as they are not good enough which is why this guy is a BStter. What is good ,pray, about stroking the ball arouns at the back then giving it to the opposition, literally. The first 2 goals were gifts that were buried. If we had had such gifts ,we'd be looking to stroke it backwards or sideways Sadly,Piroe looks a real striker who is utterly wasted.

This "furthest men forward" wingbacks routine isn't working I agree. If they dropped off 15/20 yards to provide an option and actually stretch the pitch then we might have more joy. Connor coming back should be a big help. Someone who can actually play a one-two and make an intelligent run into the box.

Why can’t people mention Coopers name? People often talk about previous managers as there are often great lessons to be learned. I still talk about Sousa and that was nearly 15 years ago. I’m afraid finishing high in the league is fresh in peoples mind and there will always be a thought about how we could do if we went about things in a sensible manner. He isn’t Voldermort, he who should not be named.

He is, but we also need to see some common sense management. Bradley was only here 12 weeks after he displayed some haphazard game plans. It’s not a set and forget job. This needs continuous monitoring so we don’t get sucked into a hole we find hard to get out of. Many of our managers have changed our style, none (Bradley apart) have had such an underwhelming start to Swansea life.

He’s got two weeks with a nearly full squad now, plus he’s presumably going to bring a couple in by Tuesday. If we’re still getting ripped apart by average teams in September, I’ll start to share your concerns.
