Hopefully managed to post the video, coming from a broken home as I did this song and it's lyrics I can relate to. I Loved John Lennon, his lyrics and his voice and this song is so poignant he sings it so emotionally.

This rendition of over the rainbow by Eva Cassidy who tragically lost her life at 33.
Almost prophetic song for the poor woman.
Can't say if you in a down mood this would be an ideal ditty to pick you up..
She apparently was chronically shy and super self critical but clearly had talent but in nearly all her performances - melancholia ruled to the extreme.
I still find this a particularly difficult watch in particular with her very short life that followed.

About ten years ago I caught the end of a radio programme with a bloke whose name I didn't catch. He had done a lot of stuff in his time, including being at D-Day. He was in a commandeered passenger ship and there was still a piano in the old bar area. He said he could never see a piano without trying it out and when he sat at it the lads asked him for a song, so he played "Over The Rainbow."
Now factor in that "Wizard of Oz" premiered two weeks before WW2 started. It was also one of the first Technicolour films a lot of people saw (after Snow White). Probably the last happy memory for a lot of people. A 13 year old kid who saw it then would be about the right age to be a squaddie in June 1944. Think of him "grown-up" at 19, saying goodbye to mum and dad at his last home leave, and going off to try and make a better world. Then think of how many of those 19 year olds never came back, and listen to Over The Rainbow.

Every time I hear this I choke. How he managed to take a Nine Inch Nails Song and turn it into such a moving piece. Cant help but thing it was a decision by the great man as his farewell tour de force.
Soon - by Dexys, just a great track to help refocus after a set back or loss.
Of course Joy Division also have to be there. This one seemed to be so prophetic coming out just before Ian Curtis committed suicide. Lyrics are just chilling .
To be fair could make the argument for quite a few of Joy Divisions songs, New Dawn Fades is equally morose and sad.
Still cant believe its over 40 years since Ian Curtis died.
