The Swansea Independent BREXIT is done thread 15:41 - Dec 24 with 28523 views | KeithHaynes | Mr Johnson thanks people on all sides for "finding the philosophers stone" to get a deal. He adds: "This deal above all means certainty, for the aviation industry, the hauliers... the police, the border forces, and all those that keep us safe. "It means certainty for our scientists who will be able to work together on great collective projects. "But above all it means certainty for business."

The Swansea Independent BREXIT is done thread on 12:14 - Dec 28 by felixstowe_jack | All 27 EU ambassadors have voted to accept the deal, which means no country has vetoed it. Next step is for the EU parliament to vote on it in the new year, which of course is a formality. |
You’d think the Parliament would be the first to have to ratify it but there we go, over old ground again.

The Swansea Independent BREXIT is done thread on 12:34 - Dec 28 by onehunglow | It would have been impossible IMO to have drawned up a bill to 100% atify both leaves and brexiteers EU and UK governments. We are going to have to run with this and make the best of it all. |
This was May’s big problem and to an extent Corbyn, they were trying to appease the remainers as well as the leavers. Bojo is clearly a massive chancer and absolute mess of a man but he had the political bravery to take the massive risks he did and jump off that fence and it worked out well for him. A massive majority and a split, weak opposition. He’s virtually untouchable for as long as he wants to be.

I would say he is untouchable until the next election, then without the Brexit platform and the covid debacle, the next election will be totally different. As for Labour they are doing what opposition are supposed to do, basically knock everything. Proof of the pudding here will be when they have to set out policies to win an election. Senedd elections will be interesting as I don't think Labour will have a free run after Drakefords handling of the pandemic. Conservatives will have little chance. Plaid may pick up a few seats as the lesser of three evils. As I have mentioned before I have no political allegiance, thats how I see it.

Doubt Boris will bother with another election. He doesn’t seem to want to be in the job at the best of times. Give it a couple of years and he’ll sail off on his yacht with some lady who is a few years younger than Carrie whatsername.

He could do what the socialist Blairs do and simply feed off a billionaire benefactor or businessman . I think Boris is in a strong position, but a lot will depend on what happens post a Covid, whether we have an enquiry and what our economy actually looks like. We have a Trade Deal which seems ok, ( unless you are a fisher person) but if companies don’t like it and it doesn’t deliver for manufacturing and services and there’s no coherent strategy to revitalise our economy, Boris could be under pressure. In terms of Covid, if there are skeletons in the cupboard and if they are outed, he may struggle, especially as there will be other potential PM’s looking to make their mark. In terms of the Senedd I think there’ll be a lot of mud throwing. UKIP and the Brexit Party in whatever guise they present themselves will be trashed, I don’t think there’s much shape on the Welsh Conservatives either, they’ve bumped their gums off and criticised Drakeford for taking various courses of action only to see Westminster emulate Drakers slightly later. Drakeford has got a few things wrong, I think he’s more sincere and cares more than a lot of politicians, but he doesn’t have the charisma and charm to lead. Last of all Plaid Cymru, I think Adam Price has something about him, but the Party generally don’t appeal to most. Hopefully next election, people will actually make decisions based on how the policies will benefit Wales as opposed to following party dogma. For starters I’d like to see one of the parties include 1) A solution to the M4 around Newport which will improve access to the West and increase prosperity, 2) A solution to the congestion on the M4 between Margam and Penllergaer, 3) And last but not least a reduction in the number of Local Authorities in Wales, 22 LA’s is ridiculous. I appreciate costs may be an issue with this but at least they can look at options for service sharing as a very minimum. [Post edited 28 Dec 2020 17:47]

There is a lot of time for a post covid bounce (if it happens) to affect the Westminster election, plus how brexit pans out. Senedd elections will be different as they are in May. Drakeford needs some positive news quickly to hold on. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Drakeford and chums will be fine in the next senedd elections, with or without positive news, especially now that he's given the kids a vote, and not forgetting the welsh labour sheep voters.

The multi million pound speaker circuit awaits, May the remoaner is pocketing £150,000 a shot and with BOJOs pull he will double anything she gets. A lot will happen in the next 4 years and no one knows what will come and go by then however much we guess. I am just waiting for Italy, Denmark Netherlands or whoever it will be next to pull the trigger on the EU and watching from the sidelines now we are off the pitch with the win and job complete. But it’s still great to see the loser remoaners talk nonsense and state their opinions and guesses as facts, you only have to look at the way they all tried to make out they knew the details of the deal moments after it was announced to see how they are all full of BS and will make anything up since they still can’t accept the will of the 🇬🇧 people and democracy.Happy effing days. 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 OUT AFLI [Post edited 28 Dec 2020 20:34]

Older people have a lot of experience and many can remember what we were promised when we joined up in the first place, and having been there right through from the start of this journey are in a unique position to be able to make an informed decision as to whether those promises have been kept.
