If you didn't e-mail the club then the club passed your tickets on to key workers and so wouldn't get to keep the money in this difficult period. That's why I e-mailed the club, for me it wasn't about getting my name up on any wall but to make sure the club got to keep the money. As i said I may be wrong but I thought that was the only way to ensure the club kept the money. |
If you didn't email the club they still kept your money. The tickets to 'key workers' is a nice gesture and good PR but in effect cost free. As AtThePeake points out for most games we have around 6000 free seats. Having two games which are 'key worker' games, giving out 500 tickets at both costs the club nothing but might actually see a few of them attend again in the future. In my opinion linking it to season ticket holders gifting the tickets to 'key workers' was alway disingenuous. | | | |

You're right, it was a bit disingenuous, but thoughtful fans should've had nothing to do with it (the wall) and kept their names to themselves I find the whole business of people who support a football team wanting some kind of recognition and tribute (unless, like Cloughy, they thoroughly deserve one) rather distasteful and small-minded. However, the club cocked the whole thing up badly....never mind doing a great job !!! If they had announced the refund thing more openly, and not in such an underhand sneaky way, they would have been looking at probably less than 50 fans needing a refund. As it was, they annoyed almost everyone I know and probably had to issue upwards of 500 cash refunds....perhaps even more. Does anyone know how many refunds had to be processed? It looks like it might be approaching 1000 based on the numbers. Isitme asks a valid question. Does asking for your money back make anyone who has been a season ticket holder for 20 years any less of a supporter ? How about another Wall for fans who have bought at an increased price during times of such uncertainty. |
Why is it a valid question? whether you agree with the wall or not, at no stage has the club linked this as a test of loyalty as a fan. I've been a fan for over 50 years and don't feel that not having my name on the wall indicates that the club don't think I am a real fan anymore | | | |

Think you've misunderstood my post. I wrote that by asking for a cash refund, I personally felt that the club acted inappropriately by how they responded to my request. I also put that I think the wall is a decent idea, and I don't think the costs are excessive. I've been a season ticket holder for over 20 years, attended Exiles days (probably spoken with you on one occasion) and raised decent amounts of money for the club via various efforts. However, I'm firmly of the opinion that every supporter should be treated equally, unless they break the conditions of the Stadium. I felt offended when questioned by a senior gentleman at the club because I asked for a refund. ( and no; it was not DB...he was on holiday at the time). I felt that it was none of this elderly gentleman's business to ask why I wanted/needed a refund for the seven missed games last season; especially not in the tone that he did. I'm not sure who he is, but his attitude was very poor. If they had requested that the money be donated to the Youth team, or similar, I would have been more inclined to go along with it. What offended me was the underhand way in which it was put to fans, and the fact that unless you wrote in, your donation was assumed. This is both morally wrong, and bad business practise. It's just one in a growing number of things that I feel are being mismanaged at the club recently. I'm happy that others feel different, but I will continue to support my team, in spite of who is taking some poor business decisions. The refund I obtained allowed me to purchase my two Main Stand season cards for this year. The price increase would otherwise have put me off. The young lady who served me could not have been more helpful...in stark contrast to her superior. | | | |

"Donation was assumed" can see why you feel like that but I think it was just the most efficient way of dealing with the situation from the clubs perspective. If they thought that the majority of people would want refunds maybe they should have reacted differently but looking at the fact it looks like few people took the refund I think the club got it pretty much spot on. | |

2600 season ticket holders and only 632 mainly correctly spelled names would suggest a far higher refund number than you think. You will never be told the number of refunds unless it can be spun but I'll wager Dawlishdale will not be far off the mark with his earlier suggestion. | |

I’ve nothing to base this on apart from the people I’ve spoken to, but I suspect the vast majority of people will have taken the key worker donation route - not particularly out of any moral sense but simply out of apathy. This was the only option out of the three that required you to do absolutely nothing, and I think that will have played a part. I’d be extremely surprised if the refund figure were anywhere near dawlishdale’s figures. | | | |
