A Rochdale Team 21:35 - Aug 21 with 12785 viewsmikehunt

And, whilst we are waiting to crack open the champagne, here's one I don't think we have had before - is it possible to name a full team of players actually born in Rochdale? I wouldn't know where to start.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Ah 1978. The famous Paisley Liverpool side, the Clough Forest side, the Robson Ipswich side, the three degrees, Argentina and the Cruyff Dutch team and, according to that mad women on tonight’s news, Bury.

Thought Joe Thompson was born in Bath, although he did grow up in Rochdale.

Funny you should say that, because on the same night, Liverpool thrashed Man City 4-0 at Anfield, thanks to a Dalglish hat-trick and a Phil Neal penalty.

They were still six points behind champions Forest, though.

He was in my year at St. Wilfrid's and Bishop Henshaw. Captained Henshaw's football team for a year or two

Andy Mandzuk (not sure if he played in the first team)
Kenny Williams may have made 1 appearance, both players round about 1970ish.

Aye, Mandzuk never played in the first team and there's no record of a Kenny Williams.

Or do you mean the bloke from Carry On films?

Ha! Kenny Wiliams I think was a midfielder. I seem to remember he either started or came on as a sub in a league cup tie at Preston.
He lved at Hamer and got on the bus there regularly!

I think you mean Bob Finc. Paul Crossley was a Rochdale lad who played for the Dale before being sold to Preston.

Kenny Williams was from Gateshead/Jarrow, I forget which. He was Dick Connor's nephew and signed as an apprentice in the early 1970's.
I don't think that he ever got near the first team.
He stayed in the town when he was released and I remember him working as an FLT driver at Woolworths at Castleton.
I think that he played Sunday League football for the Brickcroft for a spell.
