12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 14:47 - Mar 4 by Glyn1 | Stoke's strategy to get promoted was by spending big money reinforcing their squad. West Brom's plan was to keep their Premier League players, probably on the same wages. Stoke have failed. West Brom will be in the play-offs but won't be favourites. I'm happy with our season so far. We're regrouping, Potter now knows the players and we should be one of the favourites next season. [Post edited 4 Mar 2019 17:13]

Type of clueless supporter that follows the Swans The Yanks won’t make the same mistake again with James, to allow anyone to put a spoke in the wheel again, together with at least 3 others from the first team squad

12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 13:30 - Mar 4 by jazzswan | YES of course we can !! Assuming we Win the next 3 away games of course at Norwich, WBA and Forest - that would put us in with a shout!! |
You think that the Swans are going to more than double the average number of points in the next 3 games over the last 34 games are you Didn’t you watch the last game against a team that are close to the bottom of the Championship and playing at home

You don't seem to get this internet malarkey do you. My response hinted at our side being weaker next season.

12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 18:50 - Mar 4 with 1533 views | Thornburyswan | Clearly in mathematical terms we could, particularly if we were to win our game in hand, however if you have followed our season then the answer is a clear no - if we finish where we are now it would be a decent outcome from our last 12 matches.

12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 17:16 - Mar 4 by Glyn1 | The three Premiership teams coming down will be Huddersfield, Fulham and either Cardiff or Southampton, none of who will scare us. You're right about other teams not standing still of course, but we should probably finish higher next season than this season. Anyway, to answer the original question, to squeeze into the play-offs this season we would probably need to get to 70 points - i.e. 23 points from the last 12 games (7 wins, 2 draws, only 3 defeats) - and hope that some of the teams above us collapse badly, and I can't see either happening myself. We won’t scare them either And guaranteed we sell our better players in the summer because the yanks aren’t interested in success on the field We seriously overrate both Potter and our squad on here.

I stand corrected. I should have said that if we manage to keep this squad, then we'll do better next season than this season (and be one of the favourites for a top 6 place). I agree that that's a big IF.

You was right in the first posting, in that the squad and to some extent Potter are over rated Look at Norwich Similar sort of experienced and age of players that the Swans have Big difference though They are top of the Championship and Swansea is mid table Posters need to get things into prospective at least three of the players playing every week will be gone Just imagine if an offer of around £10 million came for McBurnie He will be gone

To endure another season of being hammered every game, erode any confidence in our young players while making a few people even wealthier. We are a long way from being a club able to effectively compete in the PL, both on and off the field.

12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 20:59 - Mar 3 by SgorioFruit | Exactly The club wasn’t exactly clear in its goals for this season. Some at the club said this season is all about consolidation. The yanks trying to cash in on dan James proves that wasn’t the case. These vultures we got running our club are here to rinse us dry. And what kind of ambition is it to start a season by saying “oh we just need to consolidate”. No no no no, start each season and each game each week with the mentality that we’re ‘gonna get at em’ and take it serious. Regardless of what squad is at our disposal. None of this tinkering around for four months to try find out what player fits where. A waste of a season it could be looked at. [Post edited 3 Mar 2019 21:00]

It hasn't been a waste of a season. There have been a lot of enjoyable moments. If you didn't like this season wait until next season after the summer sales

Mate that’s nonsense. The bottom line is we have a bunch of kids who have done very well and are keeping our play off hopes alive. That’s reward for the fantastic facilities at fairwood. This season and probably next season is all about stabilising. We will have a better squad next season due to the youngsters getting more mature / stronger / savvy. Plus there will be 2/3 new faces. Also there are another couple in the u23s that will come thru. The yanks have had to sell off big earners. It’s in their interest to get the club back in premier

I agree we will languish lower down the table next season unless a serious war chest is brought out (we all know it won't be). Could be another 10 or 20 years before we get in the top flight again, but miracles do happen so keep the faith brothers and sisters.

Not so much losing Olsson, Fer, Dyer and I can’t see Swansea keeping Routledge’s because of the money he’s on But I think you are right and think the likes of Van der Hoorn, James and McBurnie will go plus Rodon who you didn’t mention
12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 01:01 - Mar 7 with 1003 views | dameedna | No. The season has been questionable in not getting the most out of Carroll, Routledge, Dyer, Narsingh, Fer, Olsson, Montero. Partly because of injury and partly because of selection. Byers I think is going to be some player and Grimes is playing very well. Along with James and McBurnie we do have a few players who can stir up a game.

But we don't know if they have had to sell off big earners or not, that's the issue a number of people have.

Of course we've had to, where's the money coming from to pay them? You don't need to see detailed copies of Swansea's current accounts to know that our income dropped £60m this season and another £20m next, and that we were paying a ludicrous amount in wages. PL and Championship TV money is public knowledge, our previous accounts are out there to look at, figures from comparable Championship clubs in past season is available etc. Some fans simply don't want to believe 1+1 is 2 unless they get unprecedented access to the financials of a company.

Jasper's spot on. In wages alone we were paying about £99m in the PL. Income this year will be about £60m at best. We simply cannot afford to keep those on wages that are higher than Championship norm. We have to sell the top earners, and likely many of the middle earners too (which is why the likes of Montero and Carroll have gone).
12 games to go. Can we make play offs? on 11:28 - Mar 7 with 897 views | SgorioFruit | Clucas, baston, ayew brothers, bony, etc etc etc.....what a complete shambles of a cock up we were in our last few seasons at the illustrious top flight. What we need, is a good footballing manager, check, we already have him (apart from some of his bizarre head scratching decisions with formation and the ongoing goalkeeper shambles). And then we need good decent owners who have the best interests of the club at heart instead of filling their own pockets at any given opportunity they can to the DETRIMENT of the club. We currently don't have those type of owners. I will repeat..... ""we need good decent owners who have the best interests of the club at heart instead of filling their own pockets at any given opportunity they can to the DETRIMENT of the club"" This division was completely up for grabs for anyone at the start of this season, providing they had the correct investment and proper prior planning, and adopt the attitude of "getting at the opposition from the start" The Swans are too nicey nicey softy softy. We will not progress next season with these robbing barstewards at the helm of our club.
