The Best Live Album 16:21 - Aug 4 with 21477 viewszedlep

Just sat here on hols in Sicily chatting with my beautiful wife. “Which live album do you think is the most important in my life?” I asks. (Bit inebriated truth be told). She names two out of three that are ‘up there’. What are the best/top for you guys? For me it’s (in reverse order):
3. The Song Remains the Same - Zeppelin ( saw it at the Castle Cinema - great memories)
2. If You Want Blood, You Got It - AC/DC “Angus. Angus!”
Number fecking one! Live in the Heart of the City -Whitesnake (I’ve got a hell of a length Coverdale l!)

What do you reckon?

For me live albums are something special.. and the more duct tape and tin foil on the album the better for my enjoyment.

1) Meatmen- We're the meatmen and you (still) suck (a few venues around eastern USA)
2) Social Distortion- Live at the Roxy (Los angeles)
3) The Smiths- Rank (London)
4) The Cure- Paris
5) Pigface- Live at Bogarts (Cincinnati)

Skynyrd’s ‘One More From the Road’ would probably be your thing too, Paul.

More a box-set than an album but The Band’s ‘The Last Waltz’ has to have a nod on a thread like this.

Whenever a live album is talked about Jerry Lee’s ‘Live at The Star Club, Hamburg’ from ‘64 rates a deserved mention. An outrageously talented stylist aflame from a precise tonic of whisky and amphetamine playing for a crowd that howled with appreciation just as field recording was making the great technical leap forward.

Warwick, I’m sure it must be somewhere in your collection. One of those extraordinary occasions when everything falls into perfect alignment and the result is unrepeatable.

Ah sure do!

Sam Cooke’s live album at the Harlem Square Club in 1964 is a killer too.
Aretha’s double live gospel album and Aretha/King Curtis at the Fillmore.

Too many jazz ones to mention.

Rock stuff? Anything by Cream or Little Feat.

That Gretsch White Falcon there, it’s a thing of timeless beauty. I give an involuntary sigh every time I see one.

What's the matter with you all?

There's only one stand-out live album - Otis Redding Live at the Whiskey a go go.

With Bruce Springsteen Live in Dublin and Robert Zimmerman's Live at Budokan following closely behind.
And don't forget Wilson Picket's Live in Japan.
And Aretha's LIve at the Fillimore West.

Have to stop now.

Apparently they used heavy studio overdubbing on the album, as the original live performances may have been slightly affected by drug taking.

Peak Stones!

Saw Jon Anderson,Rick Wakeman and Trevor Rabin in Cardiff last year.
They were good but there was something missing. (obviously)

Squire was a legend mate. Beast of a bass player. I know Yes aren't going to be everyone's barrel but The Yes Album is ace - and Chris Squire's playing and backing vocals are exemplary over their whole body of work.

Probably ties with John Entwistle as the most influential of all today’s bands.
