Probably just convenience. Played at Walsall on the Tuesday night in blue so using the away kit on Sat gave the kitman less of a rush to get it cleaned reorganised and sorted, and the get it sorted again once more for this Tuesday.

Before Saturday we’d won twice away in the league this season, both recently. Having worn the home kit in its entirety on Tuesday, we couldn’t at Rotherham because they wear white shorts. Having not won a league game in blue/black/blue or blue/black/black, the other option, should we be looking at it from a superstitious point of view, would be the kit we wore at Northampton - black & white stripes/black shorts/white socks. That those white socks are only alternatives, with black being the original for the away strip, there’s a certain amount of deliberation going into the choice to wear them. This was most noticeable at Wigan when they were used with the third shirt which, due to its unlucky nature and all-round awfulness, negated any special powers contained in the white socks. Think Superman and Kryptonite.
