Jonathan Viera's "Enigmatic Message" 05:16 - Aug 28 with 37145 viewsNirvana

A bit late on this as I've been busy with work, but Viera posted a rather "enigmatic message" on his instagram last week (first link):

http://www.udlaspalmas.net/2017/08/23/enigmatico-mensaje-de-jonathan-viera-en-in

http://www.marca.com/futbol/las-palmas/2017/08/24/599ec084268e3e2f228b456f.html

http://www.laprovincia.es/ud-las-palmas/2017/08/26/ud-palmas/972011.html

The image he posted shows an empty road with the following text:

"That we sometimes leave.
And not precisely because we want to do it.
We must. And do not say it's cowardly.
Very brave you have to be.
-Defreds-"

Hmmm, interesting. Even stranger, Viera and teammate David Simon posed like Neymar/Pique with the same infamous "se queda" (he stays) caption later that day. Pique has come out and said that he knew Neymar was leaving when he posted that. I wonder if that's happening here? This is teammate Bigas' take on it (from the second link):

"Jony looks happy, as usual. I think he's had offers but we know what he's like, he is a club man and a house-man, I have not seen anything strange, I see him as always. If it were for me, to stay here all my life."

The third link I provided refers to Viera's summer as a "soap opera" resulting from the "offensive of the Premier", and states that Viera has a "pending summit" with Las Palmas' president over his contract. That seems to have been the case for weeks now, so that is quite interesting too.

Taken altogether, I have no idea what the truth is. We'll all know in a few days, I guess. I hope it ends with Viera holding up our shirt.

Ok, this is a side issue, but I’m still confident Bony will come good. It’s going to take a change in mentality from Clement, but we didn’t sign him to play the way we are playing now.

To answer your point, going into this season with one striker who was going to walk away for nothing and another on loan would have been a disaster. We’d have had to replace both in the summer with no compensation.

Relegation is a realistic proposition this season, but I’d still bet heavily against it. Worst case scenario, we continue to struggle, Clement will get the boot, there’s an enough in this squad to bring in a firefighter and finish above 3 teams (not that that would be a sustainable model and it would be the third time in 3 seasons).

Assume don’t get relegated, selling Llorente was the right thing to do.

Again, we can agree to disagree.

But going into the season with Llorente who may leave for nothing was still better than Bony who will probably leave for nothing in two seasons. It's that simple.

I don't see Bony coming good, and I believe he will leave with a whimper like Gomis. We'll be lucky to get £5m for him. So, essentially, bar a miracle happening, we will get nothing from this deal either. Same as with Llorente possibly leaving.

And, just to clarify, as scary as it may sound, Borja is coming back next summer and will probably be our starting striker next season. That is how little I trust Bony, and he's proven me right so far.

So, either way, bringing in Bony just to have SOMEONE/ANYONE at striker is a fallacy. I think Borja could be just as effective as Bony, which isn't saying much, given the right setup.

We're not utilizing Bony effectively in your opinion, so why would that change? Same thing happened with Borja, and we knew he was coming back all along. Malaga aren't paying £10m+ for him, and it was extremely wishful thinking to assume they might.

Alas, agree to disagree, but selling Llorente was not the automatic deal it's being made out to be.

You've repeated this bbullsshitt line ad nauseum on here, and I've corrected you before so you know what the truth is.

As with everything, you're wrong and not man enough to admit it.

Llorente scored 14, 14, 18, 17 goals in consecutive season with Seville and 16 goals with Juventus.

Pathetic loser.

"Insert key defeat defining smiley"

So it's 3 times in his whole career then?

And he's no spring chicken, you are talking 13 or 14 seasons here.

I think it would change, because something has to change. Whether that’s Clement changing his mentality or losing his job. Narrow home defeats and heroic defensive performances against the top teams won’t cut it forever.

I can pretty much guarantee you that if we fired balls into Bonys chest or feet midway inside the opposition half and had players breaking off him the way Dyer, Routledge, Siggy etc used to do, he would be a big player for us.

We have probably got players better equipped to do that now, in Tammy, Ayew, Sanches, Fer, but players aren’t given licence to break forward out of position.

I don’t buy the argument that Llorente wouldn’t have scored as many because he is a year older. I very much buy the argument he wouldn’t have scored as many because we haven’t got a dead ball specialist this season.

You are genuinely a clown and an idiot, and apparently illiterate, as well. Llorente has been class his whole career, everyone knows that. 21% bbullsshitt, FFS.

Have fun spending the next 30 years of your life haunting an online forum all day, everyday hurling abuse and bbullsshitt at anyone with an opinion.

Does it make you feel good at night, knowing "BOX OFFICE" struck again? You got some views, and some "new posters signed up" to tell you how sshittyy you are.

What about the wife and kids, genuinely? When I settle down and have children, I'll be looking after them, not creating some ffukkingg lame avatar for this alter-ego you fantasize about.

You aren't "The Resurrection" or "BOX OFFICE", you are some miserable, sad 'fack' with a sshittyy job who probably lives in the middle of nowhere.

Face reality "son" and admit you've been wrong about everything and move on with your life. I know you won't, but the advice is there.

You have some serious personal issues to address before this even becomes remotely something to worry about I would suggest.

Well, I'll just say I hope you are right about Bony, genuinely.

I want the best for the club and he is a big part of it now, regardless of anything else. He was great before and I have fond memories of him and hope he can recapture that. I doubt it, but I hope I am wrong, we can't depend on Abraham to do everything up top.

Getting relegated would be a disaster for the club and the area, and it would be one he'll of a mountain to climb to get back up. I hope that doesn't happen, and Bony needs to come good to ensure that.

I'll eat my words if it does, I don't need to be right about everything like some on here. Well see what happens.

As for Llorente, you have a point about the dead balls but he's a quality link up player and poacher too. He'd score some in open play, just like last season. If we had brought in Viera (or someone of quality on set pieces) Llorente would still score. But Siggy is world-class there, no doubt, and impossible to replace.

And with that, enough screen time and time for some yoga.

Cheers, 247.

Viera was and is exactly what we need, 247. That much should be obvious at this point.

As I and many others said this summer, bare minimum we needed to sign a quality creative attacker and RB, and a young, talented winger or two. I personally also advocated signing a veteran CB and keeping Llorente, especially if the best alternative was Bony. All of that still holds true, and reality doesn't look likely to change that anytime soon.

As to Viera struggling with us, I guess that could be true in theory, there are no certainties in football. But I can confidently say he would have been far more effective and influential than Sanches and Clucas have been, and that's not a bold claim to make. We spent at least £21m on those two, and we could have had Viera for a few more. And, oh yeah, Sanches goes back to Munich for nothing at the end of the season.

Viera can find runners with throughballs and flicks, he can play one-touch and link up, he can take on multiple defenders, he can shoot from distance, he can finish precisely, he can take quality corners and free kicks, etc. His quality and technique would certainly have improved our XI, and his skills pair well with Bony/Abraham.

We should've signed the guy this summer. I don't think Viera's signed that extension yet, though, so maybe January? Doubtful with Jenkins still at the helm, the cheap non-Jack bastard he is.

Spot on as always.

Viera is 4th IN EUROPE in key passes and 3rd in La Liga in dribbles. Superb player, should be in Swansea right now.

Still hasn't signed that extension I believe, so maybe...

Lessons should be learned by now.

Keep playing Mesa and spend big in January on real quality or we're ffukkedd.

This is becoming increasingly tragic.

Mark Gower topped the European list of creativity too. Viera is in an easy league, Mesa has clearly struggled in that front.

Viera is ok. He isn't worth nearly £30m though and we will never pay it and never would have, it was never even an option, rightfully. Move on for your own health, this is not normal.

I mean that quite seriously.

Viera was linked with Burnley and Newcastle for £18m recently, but the Spanish articles linked below state that Las Palmas are not keen on selling him. They also say that anyone interested in buying Viera will have to pay his full release clause of €30m.

Either way, Jenkins the cheapskate probably isn't going to pay either fee, as there's "no money left over from the summer" or whatever.

Yeah, sure there isn't. Too bad we wasted most of the Siggy money on Sanches/Clucas, eh?

Blackpool were top of "the greatest league in the world by far" (not sure who we are wuoting here btw) too at one stage. Your point?

Burnley will be among the favourites for the drop next season. Your analytical skills regarding league position and quality largely mirrors your analytical skills regarding league transition and stat based comparison - non existent.

Nice to know Burnley have clearly fought off competition from Real, Barca, PSG and Man City for this amazing talent. Incredible to think he is potentially going to slot in next to - and match - the likes of Jack Cork or Jonjo Shelvey - two cast offs from us not deemed good enough. Anyone would think he was wildly over exaggerated

What markets do they shop in then?

This fella was said to be a "bargain" at €30m wasn't he? That sounds like a player than any of those clubs would and should be in for. Especialy after seeing him first hand being in the same league as Barca and Real.

....Unless of course he is not worth anywhere near that as many suggested, which is why the likes of Burnley and Newcastle seem to be the pinnacle of ambition for this transfer.
