No, you're not the only one 442. It was noticeable how Allen found himself covering the left-back position far more regularly once the trailist came on and as you say his crossing was poor. Got a good tackle in to stop a Traore cross just after he came on but aside from that I didn't see anything particularly impressive about his performance.

Match thread: Middlesbrough on 19:02 - Jul 22 with 1402 views | ratmandale | Maybe it's just me but are we potentially comparing anyone that plays LB/LWB to the standards of Bunney too much from last season? Kitchen seems to have got quite a lot of stick for performances so far from things I've seen on other threads too, albeit I'm aware that those performances havent been plentiful to date. Potentially we could just accept the fact that Bunney was, from nowhere granted, a different class when he hit form last season, but should we not also consider that, that particular role in any team/situation is played differently by almost all players in any league and furthermore, it may take time for anyone coming in to hit form and get the style and form that Hilly wants and demands? ... Ironically; like Bunney when he first took on that position ... could be way off the mark here and on my own in this thinking but just a thought. Especially when it looks like this Bunney injury could be something that rears its head much more often than what we may have first anticipated. This isn't a dig at the post I'm replying to by the way to be clear. Great result either way though with an almost fullish strength boro side!

I'd tend to support that point of view The demands of L1 and Bunney's ability to get up and down the flank mean whoever takes over during his absence will struggle by comparison. I'd like to see Kitching given a couple of games to try to settle into the role, but doubt it'll happen No need to be defensive about your opinion, rmd!

Match thread: Middlesbrough on 20:14 - Jul 22 with 1169 views | ratmandale | Wasn't at the game today so didn't want to make any specific comments about today's game, however I just know that some folk on here can be a little touchy about certain opinions that aren't particularly mutual so to speak. I felt I may have been the only one 'backing' Kitchen so to speak from what I've seen postwise across the board. By some accounts he seemed to at least improve today though? Or were boro just THAT bad / the trialist replacement wasn't up to much and so that is the last thought of most people of our left hand side? I do worry about this Bunney injury though and I feel if it crops up again during the season after this period of recovery we need to find a proper long term replacement that fits his mould. That being said I'm aware that finding a quality player that can play LB/LWB to the standard Hill wants is almost impossible to find without a big check book that we will never open. But fair play, Hill never ceases to disappoint with his recruitment and I urge him to put a bit cross next to my theory!
