I had to drag myself away from proceedings to keep up with play but it was worth it in the end and a day I will never forget for many reasons.

Yes I have been following the Swans for over 60 years (I used to watch Ivor at the Vetch in the 50s), and the sheer class of Michu was breathtaking, one of the best ever to put on our shirt. He had a footballing brain that was miles ahead of most players (just like Gylfi in that regard). I wish him all the best, whatever he does.

Could never understand why the manager Laudrup absolutely ran him into the ground week in, week out when he had Bony available too. Not Mikey's finest hour.

I agree with you on many things Doc but can never understand why you keep peddling that line. The fitness, and whether a player takes part, is decided by the the medical team, the player and the manager. I would say the manger is third in line in the process as well. That's my lot on that subject as I don't want to derail the thread.

For me he's not a swans "great" no where near the likes of freestone, corny, trunds, brits ect... they are swans greats! Not Michu! For me great players you struggle to replace, we replaced Michu fairly easily. Good player not a swans great!

Well he was more than a good player wasn't he he was a class act but I completely agree with where you're coming from. Some of the tweets about him are vomit inducing. I saw one earlier where a girl was saying he's the person that inspired her the most. What. The. Fuçk?

I agree with you to a point. Michu was a "great" player during the time that he was with us, but an overall "Swansea great" alongside the others you mention he was not. But I have rarely known such excitement as when Michu got on a ball! Just my perspective. p.s. It's "throat".

"For me great players you struggle to replace, we replaced Michu fairly easily." Nah sorry mate, I'm just not having that.... We still haven't replaced Michu up to now. We simply just changed our style of play thanks to Monk. Definately without a shadow of doubt, Michu is in my top 3 to ever wear the shirt. The guy was amazing, pure class. Like others have said, being there at the Emirates and watching him score those two goals will live long in my mind. That goal at the bridge in the first leg of the semi that stunned the Chelsea fans and that night at the Mestalla. Wow what a player and what a team we had.... As a side note, I honestly think the reason ML hardly played Bony, was because he wanted the free flowing passing football, where as Bony prefers it hoofed up to him with back to goal. I also believe Gomis would have faired a lot better under a Laudrup team than he did with Monk etc.
Michu Retires on 10:11 - Jul 17 with 1536 views | magicdaps10 | Excellent player and one we were so lucky to have hit his career peak in a Swansea City shirt. Agreed with a previous post that he cant be seen as a legend at the club. Unfortunately a lot of today's fans only have memories of Swansea City in the premier league or at best in the liberty stadium. Will be remembered fondly down here but will go down in history in the premier league as one of,if not the greatest one season wonders of all time.

We replaced his goals quite easily with bonus goals... agree?? I agree he was a good player, but great👀 Naaa not for me. One season he had and your saying we still miss him?! Ha! Sorry pal.. Michu proved he couldn't keep his performances up. Good player good season not a great... And bony prefers it hoofed up to him??? What!!! Hash that... The movement and creative side to bony was unreal. He was a good player for us too possibley better than Michu as he produced it season after season, and is still playing premier league football.

Michu was class in the first few months of his second season too. Not as many goals but his build up play and assists had improved, and at times he was running the game
Michu Retires on 12:17 - Jul 17 with 1386 views | AnotherJohn | Players attain legend status by producing very special moments, not by long service or even sustained commitment to the cause over a long period. For me Michu did provide magic moments that eclipsed anything that even Wilf gave us. I don't think we have many other players who would have scored that away goal at Chelsea that really handed us our one major trophy. One half chance against a big team resulting in one goal isn't very common in these parts. Other exceptional goals such as the two at Arsenal and the volley at Man Utd will live long in the memory.

Michu Retires on 13:23 - Jul 17 with 1310 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | Some of the goals we scored under Laudrup were absolutely phenomenal. Now Tom Carroll whips in a hopeful cross from the corner flag and its deemed our goal of the season if someone heads it in. Expectations have nosedived amongst our fan base. I do not understand those who are saying we replaced Michu easily. Just because Gylfi plays in the same position, we did not easily replace him. One is a set piece merchant who we have had to completely overhaul our playing style to accommodate (quite successfully), the other was an integral part in building attacks from the back and playing football that made fans excited to go and watch.
