Bit of a surprise, I must say.
Sure, Hammers fans have always had a large thug element - and I bet the people who are kicking off now were in the crowd at the Swans game on Saturday, but they didn't cause any problems for us there. I was at the game and felt totally relaxed before and afterwards in the streets outside. Not a sniff of trouble. There were Swans fans mixed in with local fans in the tube station.
The reason it's gone off tonight is obvious: there is a long, bitter & violent history between these fans going back decades - can remember them having infamous punch ups in the early 70s.
Put it this way: if it was, say, WBA or Southampton (pick any team), none of this would be happening now.
So, maybe not such a surprise, really. |  | | |
