Do you know the reason why? Otherwise, why label it ridiculous?

None of us are fighting any overseas conflicts on a grand scale, but the Dutch military are in Mali (Minusma), Afghanistan, and with the UN Mission in the South Sudan. They also have naval ships on anti-piracy missions off Somalia. Whatever the reasons, I suppose it's better for the police to do this than cut essential services, such as responding to crimes, than affecting non-essential sporting duties. Returning to this country, does anyone else get annoyed when the police demand that a match be rescheduled, tell the clubs how many police they are going to use and then bill them for the overtime? What are taxes for?! [Post edited 6 Aug 2015 13:50]

Good post. Police directing games? Annoying especially as, in the past, we've had games rescheduled because Wales or Cardiff are playing at the same time. I also get annoyed at the over-policing at some games, having video cameras in my face and being treated like a criminal for attending a football match.

I agree - if the reasons are right. Especially if they are being pi$$ed on from a great hight like the Public Sector is in this country.

Matches are only rescheduled because there is not sufficient police to do the calls that come in every day and deal with extra policing issues. In recent years despite our growth in supporters and crowd size there is very rarely any policing brought in from outside of the city. Much of this is due to the general good behaviour of our fans and the "cell" used to hold away fans. I have noticed in quite a few of our games there are virtually no police present perhaps a few PCSOs and traffic cars to escort coaches in and out. I am sure there was a case involving Bolton and GMP which has resulted in only a certain % of costs can be charged by police to clubs. However in relation to taxes why should all tax payers pay for a private company (Swansea City FC) for policing a private game? Police overtime like most public sector terms and conditions has been eroded over many years, most football games will not result in anybody earning overtime as you can reallocate your day off if given enough notice. The other big difference between UK and other European forces is that UK police cannot strike and it is a criminal offence for police to discuss going on strike.

Seems like a slight over reaction to play a game of football, not sure private businesses paying the military to do their bidding is setting the best precedent either!

There should be at least 51% of the entire workforce who have voted in favour, before a strike is called for. At the moment we see strikes called when less than 20 % of the workforce has voted to down tools. Ridiculous and I'm glad the con government are about to act.

Let's hope that they do the same with all their electoral processes then.
