Which language would that be then .

North ,which considers itself pure or

The dialect referred to by gigs.

It's not enough to learn the language and frankly in today's world markets Welsh is frankly nowhere .
Hard to swallow I know. It's divisive for such a small country and its fed from those who see themselves cascading a better or a purer Welsh person.

What has the position of Welsh in the world markets got to do with anything? People don't learn to speak a language based on how many others speak it (how's your Mandarin?). The speak it because it's the language of their home nation.

Besides, lots of evidence to suggest bilingual kids do better, and the Welsh speaking schools do very well indeed. So if people think that gives their kids the best start (I do) then why not not send them to a Welsh school and let the language flourish?

Kids these days can barely speak English. We don't need to confuse their little heads by trying to teach them another language at the same time.

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Some of the replies on here are shocking they really are. The Welsh language is one of the things that makes us different to the English and part of our national identity wether you can speak it or not. It's bad enough the English in the past trying to eradicate it without present day so called Welsh people taking the same

WRONG but very sweet.

The Welsh, in the main, are no different to the English so despised on here for historical prejudice against the language.

Come to think of it, urban Welsh people are often more moved from Welsh speaking zealots on here; the language still annoys and that is an uncomfortable fact.

The vast majority of Swansea people do not and never have spoke Welsh. It clearly makes for a lesser Welsh person.

Bilingual ? Not when its taught in a an area where its not wanted like Deeside/Monmouthshire. It is an advantage to have a second language that is spoken by more than 60,000 world wide.

Quite clearly, this subject cannot be discussed with personal abuse

There's evidence to the contrary also.

As it happens my kids go to a Welsh school and it play s on my mind every day. They'll be able to speak Welsh for all that it matters, I just hope my choices haven't robbed them of a decent academic education.

So did my sisters kids in Swansea and they ve not spoken a word of Welsh since.

My daughter took german at school for 4 years and know nothing now, my son did Russian and can basically only remember the Cyrillic alphabet. Both are very bright.

Taking a subject at school means nothing unless you have the commitment and interest to keep it up when you leave. OTHERWISE ITS AN UTTER WASTE.

I forget every subject I hated at school and remember all I liked

On the assumption that the reference to "Welsh school" refers to Welsh medium education, the school ratings suggest that you have no reason for such fears. Quite the contrary, in fact.

Innit. Waiting for Blake's Seven only for 'Heddiw' to suddenly appear on my screen was heartbreaking.

Sorry I've got to 'infiltrate' this forum yet again with another bit of belated childhood angst!......... I desperately awaited the return of the Daleks in what was to become the highly acclaimed and utterly magnificent 'Genesis Of The Daleks'!

Where was I?.......... I repeat where was I on that fateful day Saturday March 1975?............Stuck in Dynevor School was I !.......Doing Eisteddfod preliminaries/ next stage qualification was I! ...........We had done our song.........done our group recital but had to stay needlessly out of politeness!

Yes! I missed the historical premier appearance of Davros for totally unnecessary reason(s). In fact those were the days that if you had a video recorder (were they out then?) in Penllergaer you would yourself have been perceived as a time lord!.........On that subject of Blakes Sevens Servalan?...........Like a 1970's Delia Smith........Completely responsible for a toilet paper shortage in many an adolescence boys household!.......Lying or not?

Argus!

When Perch lived down here around the time of the Boer war, there was only Ystalyfera as a welsh medium secondary school. Now the Swansea area also has Gwyr, Bryntawe and a new one to be built in Baglan bay. The assertion that Swansea never has/never will embrace Welsh is complete bollux.

Ever since my son was... never conceived, because I've never had consensual sex without money involved... I've always kind of looked at you as... a thing, that I could live next to... in accordance with state laws.

I am all for learning the welsh language after all we live in Wales.
But on the job prospects for school leavers a european language or even Mandarin, would be more beneficial.

We should do those too. Learning a second language (welsh) develops your understanding of language. I feel it certainly helped me with German and French.

Monmouthshire believe it or not has seen an increase in spoken welsh and welsh learners, ansd the eisteddfod is there in 2016. Its very sad the anti welsh stance by some on here, its probably are biggest assest, it sets us apart from the rest of the uk. We have against all the odds kept this language alive and working. My daughter went to a welsh school, well two and she says its the best thing she did with her education, and it got her her last two jobs that she could speak welsh, also its helped her into uni this september. Guess which uni?

1. Its not anti Welsh anything. FFS read what is posted. You draw conclusions.

2. Monmouthshire seen an increase ? good. What was the starting point.?

3. Swansea market. Come on, most of the welsh spoken by people who come in from outlying areas.

4. How about the areas I pointed out? Zero replies I notice possibly because the language is perceived to be under attack. Its not. Points are made about its relevance, that s all.

5. The initial post. Is S4C really that good . If its the national tv service why does it not cater for the majority of the country, ie who don't speak welsh.

6. Everyone can post stories of kids learning welsh but to everything turn turn turn

S4C is a channel for a Welsh speakers if you don't want to watch it then just don't watch it but stop moaning about it. I don't see anyone bitching about BBC Alba which caters for Gaelic speakers. Hundreds of other channels to chose from these days instead
