John McPhee - real Pool legend 07:55 - Jan 5 with 1608 views | David53 | So sad to hear yesterday of the passing of "Chopper". Major hero of mine in the 60s, top player, top man. RIP John - thanks for all the wonderful memories.

R.I.P. One of my best ever memories as a Blackpool supporter was the 0-0 draw at Filbert Street played in Noah's Flood. John McPhee was outstanding, in his characteristically robust tackling and in hoofing the ball into the stands at every opportunity. Not the prettiest football but it set up the Preston game as a promotion party subject to a win if I remember rightly. Thanks John.

The rumour was that Chopper had got Tony Green in training, causing his tendon to snap, but it later emerged that Tony was nowhere near anyone when he suffered his injury, just one of those freak things.
