I'll drop you a PM, but honestly that wasn't/isn't the issue. Everything I've said is based purely on what has been discussed and argued.
I agree about the whole fanbase overreacting about things one way or another. I think we all do. And an online forum is the worst for it.
Equally I'm not someone who always is "against" the manager. I think hardly anyone is. I loved Ollie and Warnock. I detested Hughes and dislike Redknapp. Different mangers, different opinions based on their actions, approach, words, etc.
More than happy for us to have different opinions but the original point was how you seem to take one of those 3 stances (4 if you include Antti's) with regard to any thread about Redknapp. You ALWAYS defend him and my whole original point is that it's becoming silly because those three stances are flawed in the way I described sometimes.
In this instance I understand the two different articles, but even reading the "good" one still shows Harry to either be crass and stupid or not very nice. He is right in that there's a lot of doubt as to whether Ale will recover. Huge doubt. But he's not a pundit on a sofa giving his thoughts, he's the bloke's f*cking boss!! He should, no matter what he thinks inside, public Ally support the bloke by saying he has no doubt he'll recover. Even in the "good" article Redknapp brings into question doubt. That is poor man management in my view. As I said, don't know if it's deliberate or not, hence the either stupid or really not very nice comment.

I know that wasn't all he said but the negative bit seems to be highlighted but not that bit where he said he will come back which i find a bit unfair. I don't think I always defend Redknapp but in this case I don't think this is anywhere near as bad as is being made out and it's turned into something far bigger than it needed to be.

Entirely avoidable if Redknapp just cheered up a bit and exuded some support and positivity. I agree with one of Hunter's main points in this thread when he says that few managers in ny walk of life would even think of doubting their colleague in such a way - there is just no need to say or no good in saying these things out loud.
I'm a manager. When I go in to see my boss, we talk about my colleagues. I know, like all who sat in my seat before me knew, that there in one rule - you deal with it internally and stay schtum in front of the bosses. Redknapp treats the media like his boss. He does hisnegotiations through them, his pleading, his explaining, his whinging. Redknapp has no such truck with discretion. To stay schtum would be to miss a trick.
Having said that, I still don't think Redknapp meant any harm. He's just dour and pessimistic and woe-is-me fatal in front of the media.

We'll never know now what his intentions towards Faurlin were, Hunter, or even if he and Beard had spoken about it earlier this week. Unfortunately, Redknapp's credibility is very low. Cerainly it is with me. I can't help thinking that they may have only spoken about it this morning prior to the press conference, their situation forced by this latest faux pas.
Incidentally, if I were Beard I wouldn't appreciate the implication that Redknapp was the good guy in this:-
“I spoke to [chief executive] Philip Beard this week about giving him another year’s contract,” he said.
And Beard is, what? The nasty executive who had to be told? Only words, maybe, but words matter to people. As this morning illustrates yet again.
Again, if it were a decent man-manager and a team player speaking that line would read "we have spoken about it within the club and we are determined to a man to offer Ale an extension, and that will happen very soon, and will be richly deserved".
Either way, it's good news for Faurlin, even if it leaves a faint sour taste all 'round. | |
