is this Narrow Boat the same pub that was called the Western Arms when I used to go there? (90s/early 2000s)
I think the Western Arms was a Whitbread pub while the Narrow Boat was Fullers. I worked around there moons ago and used Lads of the Village at lunchtimes plus a Courage pub on the Harrow rd that had good scran and Directors bitter, I think it was George the IV or something.

The Western Arms was on Kensal Road a short walk from the the Narrow Boat. The beer wasn't great in the Western but it was used by many QPR supporters but not me apart from that game that we don't mention where we met in there at 09.00 in the morning and somehow walked to Wembley.Loads in there that day, ended up after the game in the Lads of the Village.

Well everybody knows down in Ladbroke Grove you have to leap across the street you can lose your life under a taxi cab you've got to have eyes on your feet

My Great Grandmother died in a traffic accident on Ladbroke Grove, before my time.

I have to correct that assertion as a matter of historical fact and a friend’s memory. My best mate’s dad ran the Admiral Blake, late ‘60s into the ‘70s. Ron would never have stood for any of that sort of carry-on. https://www.theundergroundmap.com/article.html?id=2942
Also, the Narrow Boat (Wally & Irene) was a great little pub, but it was on the Ladbroke Grove canal bridge further back towards Kensal Green.
Had to jump in there, apols.
Long before my time so I wouldn't know, but I have to salute you for standing up for your old mate's old man.

Sounds like that was the William IV, past the main cemetery entrance?

My grandparents lived opposite the White City on westway when I was a kid. They got moved to Barnes when their council house was demolished to make way for the flyover.

It’s just horrible, isn’t it. The only way is up. One of the good things about our bit of suburban West London is that it’s not going double high rise in Hillingdon. Just a matter of time.
When I go back to visit my mum in Kingsbury I’m always amazed at the amount of high rise flats they’re building along the A5 through West Hendon and Colindale! One set are called Lake View FFS as they look over the Welsh Harp!

I had a driving job not so long ago which took me over most of London. As I mentioned above, being in suburban West London and generally knocking around here, I’ve never had the need to travel too far.
My goodness, how our city has changed. Vauxhall has gone skywards. I had a delivery to flat 1205 - this is in one building. Brentford is heading upwards, central Croydon is a city within a city and so it goes on.
It works for some, I get that, but It’s not for me. Can’t stand it.
Must sling Battersea in there, as well. How on earth do people live like this?

Used to drrink there with Alan Barnes and Co. after Saturday home games back in the 90's.
Was trying to remember where exactly it was. Thanks!
yep had many a few light ales with alan, jimmy m, keith, lenny etc over the years in the western, going over the match with a fine tooth comb. and you must know alans got a memory like an elephant....going back years. had a drink with him at derby this season, absolute shame what has become of him. we're all still here for him though, and thats the main thing...

What utter nonsense!
I mean the evidence is there in the film right in front of your eyes.
The Westway ruined West London. If only they'd dug down.
Not nonsense. I’m guessing you re not from the manor but if so just ask an older relative or do some reading. Those lovely tall houses were crammed full of bedsits and flats by slum landlords. Peter Rachman being the most infamous . Seriously run down, often with baths in the kitchens and communal toilets. Poor British and Irish were joined by West Indian immigrants because they couldn’t afford to/weren’t allowed to stay in nice areas. Tensions from this also led to the first Notting Hill Riots in 58 which lasted for a week. Also when the Westway was built they actually cleared a lot of the slums.

Although I did quite like Rachman’s 2nd piano concerto.

I am from the manor, or near enough. And knew it well growing up as my mum taught just off Portobello Road and plenty of her friends lived in those lovely tall houses, so I went inside plenty of them. And yes, there was squalor, but not a great deal. And yes, I know about Rachman, but here's the thing, you said:
"It was literally a slum back then. "
Which is utter nonsense. Parts of it were pretty run down. Most of it was fine, even the poorer areas. It was not a literal slum. They had literal slums in the East End back then, mind you. Cheers.
Edit: Actually, on consideration, I agree, some parts were pretty much slums. But I suppose I'm being pedantic, because large parts weren't slums. As you can see in the clean and ordered streets in the film.
Edit 2: Utter nonsense is a bit strong. I apologise for that.

Peter Rachman was quite popular with West Indian residents of Notting Hill as he was an equal opportunity slum landlord - if you had the desire to 'dwell' in his properties and paid the rent, he couldn't care less who you were.
Aside, my dad and his mates often mentioned him, not only for his hundreds of run down buildings, but rather like many a pirate, where did he bury his money?
