Frey on 17:32 - Feb 5 by simmo | Feels like a very QPR player, and I mean that in a good way. Unorthodox, turning circle of an Islet, varies between the touches of Bergkamp and the corner of a shed, and I'm not convinced parts of his body don't work independently. But, he's got that knack of being where he needs to be amongst the chaos of a penalty area, he works very hard and generally presses well, he does the doggies defensively and he absolutely loves the physical stuff. I also think he works great 'softening up' the defence in anticipation of a Kolli or Lloyd to come in and take advantage. There was a point in the 2nd half when we're chasing the winning goal and he wins a corner hustling and bustling. He shrugs the defender, places the ball in the corner, then jogs into the far side of the penalty area purposely bashing into every Blackburn player on the way. One of the BBurn lads objected and Frey squared up and gave him the full Wealdstone raider treatment. If nothing else, I love to have a bit of that in our forwards. The only part I hope he can continue to improve is his back to goal game... It's better than any of our other forwards, clearly, but the ball doesn't stick to him or get played off him with purpose as often as you'd like - but it's absolutely a coachable trait. |
Tough nut indeed the old Swiss. Reminds of that bald geezer in Zulu with the crutches and the long bandge who goes all Schwarzenegger on the enemy, saving John Merriot Chard from certain death in the process. The camera pans away as he's laughing like a maniac with the Zulu's bleeding out on the mealie bags. | ![](/images/avatars/1554.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I noticed that moment in the second half. He was ticking. Seriously fired up. I’m not sure but I think it might have stemmed from earlier in the second half someone cracked through the back of him late by the dug outs. Ref played on as we did a big switch. Frey was fuming with the ref and the defender who did it and ran from there into the box to get up with play shouting and pointing at the ref and the defender. As a mate of mine who is a neutral said, he bounces games like he’s working at the old Walkabout. Invaluable having some of that in your side in the Championship. | ![](/images/avatars/2027.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Frey on 18:20 - Feb 5 with 2769 views | numptydumpty | Certainly has a bit of menace about him and stands as a hard man type persona that could rile the odd unsuspecting centre back. He does seem to score fairly regularly also and can in games be an excellent hold it up there type of player also. We have been looking for a decent centre forward for many years as we have had zero tbf. But with Frey fit - we have a decent championship number nine - old school target man - who occasionally with a little bit of trickery - like last night. Kolli, Lloyd and Celar are decent replacements but none are the old skool centre forward but with us having a variety of goal threats in the team - we certainly have a decent squad currently, embarrassment of riches almost in comparison to recent days gone by. | ![](/images/avatars/9720.gif) |

Did his own fit camp in the summer. Has cottoned on to the Scott Brown trick of shaving your head to look a bit more scary. As mentioned above, no surprise he’s actually a really nice guy. Seen better forwards at LR but a lot more worse. I like him. | ![](/images/avatars/1421.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

This, he did his fitness as he realised lolling about like Madsen does won't do. He has skill in finishing, hold-up play, heading, he can also pass a bit as well. This combined makes him a great outlet when the oppo presses and if the other players get him the ball in the box, then he can score (which our other players struggle to do). Hes a striker who plays as old fashioned CF mould. Quite useful in this day and age and rare and as we have seen effective. Only downside is he's old and not young. | ![](/images/avatars/1596.gif) |

Frey on 14:46 - Feb 6 with 2210 views | BrizR | Someone asked about his stats earlier - he's got 6 goals (none of them penalties) and an assist in 19 games in the league, so just a touch under 1 in 3, or 1 every 192 minutes. Joint 25th in the league out of 325 total scorers (excluding own goals). I'd say that's pretty decent and if it hadn't been for the injury he would likely be higher up the list. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

Abso facking lutely. Not had a striker like him since the days of Furlong and Helguson. Posters on other threads suggesting we release him at the end of the season - madness. I like him, he plays a very valuable role. He knows what he's doing. Seems a good sort. He's 31 this year. He's on an eye-watering weekly. He is regularly injured. He's scored six goals in 20 games, one assist so far this season. I sometimes think just as much as "do not fall in love with loan players", it's important that fans do not "stay in love with players in their 30s whose contracts run out in the summer". I can't off the top of my head think of a single 30-something player who we've not renewed and subsequently come to regret leaving. I know how unpopular this opinion probably is the week he scored in a win. Ask yourself, though, if we were signing a 31 year old journeyman striker who had only hit double figures three times in the last ten seasons of second tier European football and had missed several months of the previous two seasons injured, just how happy you'd be? | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I thought Zamora had earnt another year after THAT playoff final. I remember him chanting "Four more years" after the game on the 'Four Year Plan' I don't think an extended contract was warranted, but bearing in mind he used to get cortizone injections before ea game just to make it through. In the same era as players like Routledge, who didn't fancy it cos my legs ache from yesterday.... A lot of time for Bobby, a bit like Frey, in that his contribution shouldn't really be measured by goals alone | ![](/images/avatars/23941.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

I've seen you mention Frey's large weekly wage on the out of Contract thread and here. (Not having a pop by the way). I'm not surprised at all he's on a big weekly wage and I think (this season) there is good reason. When he joined you'll recall he was in dispute with previous club. I remember people saying that from January to May he was virtually paying us to play which was just as well looking at his minutes. He was however very useful when we did get him on the pitch. I always thought he's get a contract with a wage set to account for the peppercorn wage he'd got for six to eight months, ergo averaging out over his time. I'd say he's got at least 18 months in him at this level and I hope he stays as one of four strikers we'll need next season. | ![](/images/avatars/4057.gif) |

Frey on 16:36 - Feb 5 by Toast_R | There was a moment in the first half, last night where close to the touchline, he controlled the ball while facing the opposite way, and flicked the ball passed two defenders. it was an absolute sublime piece of trickery, not sure he could ever do it again if he tried but even the commentator said it reminded him of a prime Dennis Bergkamp. |
Yes - I was looking along that line from R block and it was a very cool touch. Quite surprised me given he's built like a Swiss farmer!! Maybe Marti's plan is that Frey bullies defenders into submission for an hour and then sends Alfie or Kolli on to feed on their PTSD! | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
Frey on 14:06 - Feb 7 with 1158 views | LongRanger | For me he's done enough to justify an extension being offered, on the best terms we can offer within the salary structure I assume we have. I'd imagine at 31 he knows he won't get what he gets now, so if he accepts our best offer, great, but if he wants more and can get it elsewhere, good luck to him. Same with Dunne...make your best offer and then its up to the player. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |

As I say, I know I'm out of step with opinion here. But I do think the healthy contracts of senior players in their 30s ending are always huge opportunities for clubs. We thank them, we celebrate them, we hire replacements who provide value. Michi Frey will not do that. He missed a big chunk of last season injured. He's missed a big chunk of this season injured. Hopefully he's available until May now...let's see. I'd love him to be available every week, scoring lots, causing problems, bringing players into play as he can. Seems a good lad and a useful player. His career up until this month suggests he'll have more long periods out, though. And he's 31 in July. Who knows. But re-signing an injury-prone 31 year-old striker on a healthy wage doesn't strike me as a very QPR 2025 move. | ![](/images/avatars/0.gif) | | ![](/images/icons/ignore-user.png) |
