I know there have been a couple of threads about Charlie Kelman, but I was just wondering what everyone thought will/should happen at the end of the season?

I think his contract expires in the summer. Does he deserve another go with us or has that ship sailed?
I'd like him to be given another chance.

He has demonstrated that he knows where the back of the net is at that level and I saw that he was heavily marked in his last which ended up with Orient scoring six and Charlie not on the score sheet. Questions have to be asked about that tactic.
I doubt he would be getting a fortune if he was to resign and he has the feel of one we would regret if we did let him go. Tricky one.

The grass is always greener.

Do we have people watching our loaned players each week?
If not I hope we would at least give him a chance pre- season.
I watched them put six past Exeter on Tuesday night. Unfortunately he didn't get any of them.

Exeter seemed to have a plan to stop him scoring by doubling up on him, it just released others into the spaces.

Sell him, get him off our payroll. He is not good enough. He is not what we need.

I'm ambivalent.
If he can get 15-20 goals in L1, as a 23yo, we'd normally be all over it. But he hadnt looked anything spe ial for us.

I'll go with whatever our management team think is right.

Unless there has been a dramatic improvement in nearly all areas of his game I can't see space for him here considering we will probably have Kolli, Lloyd and Celar at least as options next season.

Having extended his contract a couple of times hoping to see him realise his goalscoring potential and see him score a dozen or so goals at this stage of the season, why would you not give him a new contract?

He may choose not to sign a new contract, mind.

I think he's found his level. Unless Orient get promoted, I'd imagine they'd be keen to keep him.

How do you/we know, though? Surely Marti will at least want to see what he can do at ours? And presumably the player himself will want to give it a go.

Apart from that, we still need all the strikers we can get.

Poll: Keep our 12 game pts return going, and it's a 73 pt finish! Playoffs?

Personally, I hope he continues to score more goals whilst on loan, because his stock will rise and at the end of the season we will be able to sell him for at least what we have invested in him.
I don't think he factors into our future plans - or Marti would have attempted to cut short his loan in this window.

His contract expires this summer so he'd leave on a free.

With 11 goals you think we might get some money for him. Perhaps the club have an option...

When someone's contract expires, which his does this June, it usually means they can leave for free as they'll be out of contract, thus any suitor for his services wouldn't have anyone to pay a transfer fee to... well that's what usually happens

Do we know that his contract's up at the end of this season? This time last year when he went to Wigan on loan the club said:

"The 22-year-old forward, who has extended his contract with QPR, will stay at the DW Stadium for the remainder of the season."

Not sure how Leyton Orient line up but I'd be surprised if he can be a lone striker, which is what Marti employs, so I can't see him making it with us.

I recalled it said he had “the least chance k of a young Wayne Rooney” by some…. Chunky young fella

It looks like another wasted £250k transfer fee plus wages since to me

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Just looked on Fotmob, according to them he plays up top in a 4231

If we had no option on him, I'm wondering what the point of his 1 year contract extension last season was.

We've batted that question around before:

I just noticed Charlie Kelman has already scored three league goals this season (4 in total) out on loan at Leyton Orient. Is this the year he finally makes some significant development and returns to us as someone who could have an impact? Or is he just a mid-table L1 player at best? Still only 22 (23 in Nov), so he might have a chance. Also, is he in the last year of his deal with us, or are we not allowed to know such things?!

Kelman? on 07:56 - Jan 31 with 361 viewsgazza1

When a player extends his contract he would normally ask for a 'signing on' fee. Not only that but a player once he resigns he does not only get his basic wages paid but normally other bonuses such as appearance money, team points, league position, etc, etc....it can go on. Furthermore, there are other player costs such as food costs, travel costs, general player costs (ie, kit), insurance costs and it goes on.

My view is that he is not good enough and never will be to play the level we want to play at, currently the Championship. We should cut our losses and move on....good luck to him.

Glad for him that he is doing well.

Most of the goals have been tap ins, but fair play to the guy.

Perhaps, he is not in our plans, but if he isn't so be it and hope he has a decent career elsewhere.

If he is, in the belief he is later to develop, sure our staff will make the right decision.
