Thanks for recommending Whiplash, not the type of film I would have bothered with, but I really enjoyed it. |

Watched The Town and The Drop in the last few days and I agree, that they are both very good. |

Thanks for the explanation Michael, sounds familiar. Can't argue about Cardinal Hinsley's though, unfortunately with Irish parents, I was always going to end up in a Catholic school. My sister got the better deal going to the Convent. |

Yes I went there late 60's early 70's, after a couple of years in the little Red house? Just looked on Google streetmaps and it looks like it's someone's house now. When did Cardinal Hinsley's become Newman Catholic College? |

That's a shame. Used to deliver post there a few years ago, no shortage of interesting characters about. [Post edited 27 Feb 2015 23:00]

As Beaufort stated. From EL PAIS The news that Iker Casillas could be out of the Real Madrid goal for up to three months after he has an operation on his left hand saw the club move swiftly in the closing January transfer window to bring in former Villarreal man Diego Lopez from Sevilla for a reported €3.5m. |

The first casualty at Loftus Road under Harry Redknapp may be the kit man - we've got a delay at Old Trafford as goalkeeper Julio Cesar has got the wrong colour tape on his socks. Everyone has to wait now as he goes and gets sorted... |
| Forum Reply | Surreal conversation about QPR in Antigua at 20:05 21 Nov 2012
Yes I agree that having a team in such a high profile league, needs strong leadership and clearly the American presenters couldn't understand this idea of giving Mark more time. I guess a heavy defeat on Saturday might make Tony's decision easier/harder. With Harry supposedly interested in the Ukraine job, it mounts a massive amount pressure on Mark's shoulders and is pushing Tony towards making a quick decision. If we could get a point on Saturday this would help settle everyone, but recent interviews with Mark haven't instilled much confidence in things changing soon. I have to say I was very impressed with Fox's coverage of all the matches, replayed in full over the weekend, although some of the terminology is clearly more aimed towards American football than soccer. | Forum Thread | Surreal conversation about QPR in Antigua at 16:18 21 Nov 2012
Just back from a week away in Antigua with the wife. We did the "around the island tour" on Monday and had a weird conversation with the driver/tour guide Sean whilst we drove past the The Viv Richards stadium (built for the Cricket World Cup 5 years ago). Apparently they get bigger crowds there now for the Antigua football matches than the cricket and most of the youngsters wear Premier league tops. So he asked the dreaded question of which team I support and I was suprised just how much Sean knew about QPR, from our survival last season to our struggle this one and how optimistic he was that we would survive (I struggled to be so optimistic). After seeing the result last Saturday on bbc world news, I then got to see the whole match on Fox soccer plus (unfortunately), which was followed by a panel discussion on Mark Hughes and should he keep his job. They all agreed that in one of the best football leagues in the world, his stats just didn't add up to him staying and basically they thought he should have already been replaced. Back this morning to a wet and windy south east bbbrrrr. Roll on Man Utd, a make or break in more ways than one. Tom |
| Forum Thread | Cardiff v Swansea at the races. at 22:40 14 Jul 2012
Football fan fracas at racecourse Jul 14 2012 Thirty football fans brought terror to an afternoon at the races when they fought running battles for 15 minutes. Groups of Swansea and Cardiff City fans clashed at Newbury Racecourse leading to the closure of bars around the circuit and police descending on the site. Only three people were arrested - two for affray and one for a public order offence, Thames Valley Police said. It was not clear why the sets of Welsh fans unleashed their violence at the ground in Berkshire, marring the Newbury Summer Festival. Race track managing director Stephen Higgins said: "There was sporadic fighting over about 15 minutes with approximately 30 people involved. We have absolutely no idea why it started." Inspector Phil Rogers of Thames Valley Police said there were on a few minor injuries and no complaints were made to police. Officers were called at 4.03pm by the race ground staff. Insp Rogers said: "Two arrests were made for affray and one for a public order offence. The remainder left on buses. It appears to be caused by football supporters from Swansea and Cardiff who met in the ground." Racegoer Julie Davis told the Racing Post: "It was a disgrace and I won't be coming again. It took so long to get it sorted out. Every time you thought it had stopped it started again. I reckon there were at least 30 people involved. It was scary." Another punter Denise Mathias told the Post: "It just seemed to be a big fight between football supporters from Cardiff and Swansea. It was terrible. I saw a stocky man covered in blood having his head stamped on." |

Well done PlumsteadQPR. London Challenge Cup 1949/50: QPR 2 Dulwich Hamlet 1 This must be the game he was talking about then, so he must be in his mid 80's at least. I forgot to say I asked him the score, hoping we didn't lose and he said it was a close game and we won 2-1. I'm glad he hadn't made it all up. Thanks guys. Tom |
| Forum Thread | Chat with a stranger at the DGH Eastbourne today. at 19:57 27 Jun 2012
Whilst sitting waiting for my wife to return to her seat (after having her blood tests) in the waiting room in the DGH, Eastbourne today, an old boy wandered over and sat in her seat. After a few minutes he started talking to me about the NHS etc and finally got to why he was in the hospital today. He was meant to be seeing a consultant to discuss having a nose operation, which he felt was unnecessary as he knew he only had bad sinus problems. Then we got to the interesting bit (what do you mean, thank god for that!!). When his GP had asked him how long he had these sinus problems he said "around 25 years doc" and what do you think caused this to start then? the GP asked. "I know exactly when it started doc" he said, "when I went up for the corner and I got a wack on the nose from the Queens Park Rangers defender". That's when I stopped nodding and only half listening and said "who did you play for then?" It turns out he was playing for Dulwich Hamlets fc against us at Loftus rd in a cup game. Unfortunately the wife re-appeared then and he got called, so that was the end of the conversation. When I got home and tried to find out more about this fixture, I could find no mention of it. I suppose it's a tale he tell's every stranger. What a shame. Tom |
