Jimmy Dunne. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world’s first bionic man… Jimmy Dunne will be that man. We can make him better than he was before. Better… Stronger… Faster. |

Rumour has it that the length of contract to be offered will be correlated to the number of pages this thread reaches. EDIT: Ooops, that's taken it to 30! [Post edited 4 Feb 15:24]

Unless the groin strain is genuine or the club decides to play it out to save face. |

Indeed. A 2CV with 27BHP. |

Well, after nearly 30 pages, this feels like a bit of anti-climax. Hopefully the club can tie him to a new contract but for the time being I'm happy he's still ours and will be giving him my full support tonight. |

Ease him in then. Welcome Joao! |

I'm also quietly enjoying the direction of travel with pursuing younger players, particularly in the development squad. Teams like Sunderland have shown that with enough game time they can quickly develop the know-how to compete in the Championship. Hopefully, they will develop together and provide Marti with the enthusiasm to stick with the project long-term. Welcome Harvey! [Post edited 4 Feb 15:14]

So you're passionate and vigilant about something that doesn't exist, so much so that you feel that it warrants explicit bias against fellow supporters. OK, got it. |

"I'd even go as far as to say there's some subconscious bias present given his stature and background etc. compared to Willock's. At the end of the day, they've both done the same thing." If you're not referencing the club's handling of Willock then one can only assume you're targeting fellow fans. That's poor and takes the shine off what was an otherwise great point; that when it comes to contract negotiations, it takes two to tango. |

Indeed. It's an utterly illogical theory as by definition it's subconscious so no one can prove it's existence. Moreover, in Chris Willock's case, Sir Les was QPR DoF for the vast majority of his time at the club, so how would that even work? Frankly, Chris was not treated any worse than a clutch of other players who ran down their contracts (e.g. Manning, Robinson). As you say, the reaction to Jimmy is different simply because, despite the uncertainty over his future, he's still giving his all on the pitch. |

Whilst I agree with this particular point, I think it's a bit rich to accuse others of making "a massive leap" when you allege that QPR's handling of Chris Willock was shaped by unconscious bias. |

Understandable that both he and the team improved once Ronnie moved to CB. CB is his natural position and he's able to beat the press with incisive passing through the lines, something Fox doesn't have in his locker. |

As a general rule, a club like ours has to find a delicate balance between developing players in order to generate a profit and staying competitive on the pitch. Hence, it can be difficult to gauge exactly when to sell a player. However, what you and some others appear to be missing is that the player himself does have a choice in all of this. If he chooses to run down his contract, then there is very little that the club can do other than continue to try and convince him to renew or sell for whatever they can get. If Jimmy stays, wonderful, but if does go for £2m, then that's reasonable business for a player with less than 6 months remaining on his current contract. Making vague comparisons with other players is pretty meaningless as transfer fees depend on a number of factors, including but not limited to age, experience, talent, position, level of interest from other clubs, and duration of contract remaining. If you must make comparisons then at least get it straight. The person who you allegedly "met the other day" may well be a "jolly nice chap" but the centre-back who left Hull last summer to join Ipswich is Jacob GREAVES not Reeves. [Post edited 1 Feb 21:06]

Why would it be a surprise? Footballers come and footballers go. The days of Mr. <insert club> are well behind us. Any football player worth his salt has ambition to play at the highest level possible. Aside from higher wages, Sheffield United can offer the chance to play at the top end of the Championship and the possibility of PL football. If Jimmy were to take his opportunity, that could open up the door to more caps for his country. Playing football is a short career and, at 27, Jimmy may not get another shot. Naturally, I hope he stays but I'm also realistic enough to recognise the reality of what's on offer. After serving QPR admirably for 4 years, Jimmy has earned the right to consider his options. |
