QPR finances released on 13:03 - Feb 23 by derbyhoop | A new, bigger ground could increase the revenue from the football side. However the ability to use the ground AND facilities a lot more than 25-30 times per year would also help. Provided the extra income isn't swallowed by player/agent demands. Sadly, even if we could find a suitable, affordable site, it would take 2 years from conception to usage. The club is starting to extract retur s from the training ground but still has a way to go. It remains that selling players for a profit would be a real game changer. See how Brentford did it. |
What Brentford did is use a vast amount of data which means they things right more than wrong in terms of transfers, but getting our hands on that amount of data isn't an option for us it's not something you can buy. Problem with the new ground is that your income might increase 10%, but how long will it take to actually pay off the cost of construction including land etc. 30 years?
QPR finances released on 14:18 - Feb 23 with 1623 views | lassel | Not much to add on the latest accounts other than that they spell out what people were repeatedly saying last season - we were extremely tight on FFP and had to be creative to get anyone in. The concern for me is on this season - any savings on Dykes, Willock, Adomah, Begovic will have been easily swallowed up by the likes of Madsen, Varane, Nardi, Celar. We also have Frey, Andersen, Cook & Colback earning extremely good money this year, all individually on far more than half the leagues highest earners, so we are going to be looking at another c.£25m loss this year and then hopefully two seasons of common sense and tight belts rather than allowing a Beale-esque blowout this summer, plus also likely needing to move a couple out for decent fees.

Amazing.....I find it 'mind blowing' that you know all this information. How do you know all that stuff, I would have thought that sort of detail is highly confidential. Can you clarify how you know this stuff please?? [Post edited 23 Feb 18:05]

How many players are you counting as the league's highest earners? Because if you're earning more than the highest earners then you'd be the highest earner yourself. Which would mean the others aren't.

QPR finances released on 13:31 - Feb 23 by dmm | Using a stadium to bring in non-matchday income isn't easy. In London there's such a plethora of venues covering every conceivable activity the competition is extremely fierce. Didn't Brentford decide not to go down that route and simply built a football stadium for football? |
Re Brentford, afaik the plan originally was to incorporate Conferencing (and other?) facilities in the stadium which would generate non-matchday income. Also a hotel on site. But they then concluded that they're a football club who don't possess expertise on non-footballing matters and besides, London is coming down with competitors who do have expertise. Decided to concentrate on a football-only stadium instead. On which point, the first design was for 20k seats (maximum feasible), but then realised that sacrificing 2.5k places to increase their hospitality set-up (lounges etc) would actually produce more revenue. EDIT: They were also getting income from renting out to London Irish, but eventually concluded that the pitch damage from rugby outweighed the (relatively low) rents being received - at least in the context of PL revenues. So that if London Irish should be revived, they won't be playing at the GTech - an opportunity for QPR/Loftus Road perhaps? [Post edited 23 Feb 19:29]

Well, they've literally just published a document with the figures in it. A very interesting line right at the end of them - "post filing events", i.e. what we've done this season and will appear in the accounts a year from now, says basically a net outlay of £6m on players. If we're to assume they got the £2m+ for Armstrong they like to brag about, plus a fee for Dykes, then that means we spent around £9m on players this summer. Not insignificant for us. For that £9m we've recruited Madsen, Celar, Dembele, Varane, Bennie, Nardi, Santos, Morgan, Morrison and we've loaned Saito, Edwards, Ashby, Yang. The vast majority of that £9m has gone on the first four players - Madsen, Celar, Dembele, Varane. Up to you whether you think that's good business or not, but it's there in black and white now, it's not message board posters making things up. Madsen is a huge liability for us if he doesn't pull his fcking finger out.

QPR finances released on 10:37 - Feb 23 by eastside_r | Not on Twitter so have not seen this guy’s commentary but have downloaded the accounts from Companies House and had a look myself. A couple of caveats - one, it’s Sunday morning and have only skim read. Two, although I am used to reading these, I am not an accountant or financial analyst. A couple of things, I will comment on. Operating loss has reduced from just over £22m to just over £15m. So I think this means the much quoted almost £2m per month was reduced to c£1.25m. (From a punch in the bollocks to a punch in the chest!?) Ruben has increased his control, taking shares from Mittal Group (effectively Amit?) and Richard Reilly, so no imminent American takeover which might have been on the cards previously? I think Clive said we might be getting a Patreon on this, so I will leave it for people more qualified than me to comment further. (Pretty please, Clive.) |
Will be recording with Niall Wednesday, out by the end of the week. If you've got questions put them here and I'll ask them.

Great to hear. I agree with Gazza and Ned on this point, until this is analysed properly there is huge space for speculation, ITK and fake-ITK nonsense. And that is never helpful. The truth always comes out.

I'm putting a lot of faith in the fact that Madsen must have an astonishing agent who would be able to work the same magic he worked last year (with us) again in selling the benefits of his client to others.

The accounts show an overview: they do not show a breakdown of how much each player cost and how much they earn despite a few claiming to know this information.

Well let's stick to the hard facts then. If you take out the free transfers and loans then this summer we got Madsen, Celar, Dembele, Varane, Bennie and Morrison. For £9m.

Don't forget that for this season we have a significantly increased amount of Sky money vs last season IIRC.

Suppose there could have been some sort of fee for Saito within the £9m too, even though he's just a loan for now.
