Pitch update on 11:37 - Jan 15 by 49thseason | Kingsway or AV it matters little, both have good motorway access and the surrounding area is away from housing so no real parking problems especially if we could get a bit of cooperation from places that dont work nights and Saturdays, Kingsway of course also benefits from the tram stop......who knows there might also be room for a helicopter pad!.. another benefit for the Borough! As some have pointed out a new stadium would also permit a number of peripheral businesses to piggy back around and inside it providing additional revenue. A new ground, a new start... just the small matter of £10m +....but then you imagine the Ogdens know plenty of potential investors. |
The only land that is available borders the cray and Buckley hill lane areas near to housing unfortunately. There is another patch of land near the Asda warehouse but that backs onto the new housing estates off Broad Lane and they are right nimbys around there.

I always thought the top of Springfield Park/ running track and pitches would have made a great location for a new stadium and sports village, you could even bring the golf course under the same umbrella and put a new access road in from Roch Valley Way or Bolton Road. Redeveloping the park also which is now looking tired and building a education/ residential complex with investment from the club, council, education, NHS, Government and grants. It's a massive footprint if you include the golf course and park and something that could benefit all parties. [Post edited 17 Jan 7:16]

Springfield Park received a Green Flag award for the first time in 2024. Green Flag award is the benchmark international standard for publicly accessible parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Yes probably the best park in the Town but it used to be so much nicer and very well maintained. They had grass tennis courts also but I think they went a long time ago.

Access could have been from Bolton Rd where Chamber House night club use to be. Direct access to the site could have been made, therefore not disturbing the residents on Nixon Street.
