Madsen Mins 11:10 - Jan 8 with 14867 views | LazyFan | It seems his mins playing for QPR as a trend are going down per game. That as a trend. Lets start with the Stoke game in November when our good run of form began (some may say it was later) to see how the mins on the pitch have gone. D - Stoke = 61 W - Cardiff = 81 D - Watford = 64 W - Norwich = 67 W - Oxford = 67 D - Bristol = 16 W - Preston = Benched L - Swansea = 45 D - Norwich = 32 W - Watford = 13 W - Luton = Benched. Fear my Jack Supple analytical powers! It looks like he's a sub being considered less and less, with Varane, Colback, Field and Morgan ahead of him. He seems to be only just ahead of EDB at the moment. If he goes higher up the formation, he has to compete with Saito, Chair, Smyth, Frey, Kolli, Llyod and even Andersen. So, I expect him to start against Leicester so as the others get a rest, probably in for Morgan. But unless he ups his game a lot, I cannot see a way back for him at the moment.

Surely even we wouldn't spend allegedly 3 million quid on a player we never saw play . I would love to know what the scouts saw that made them think he would suit the Championship. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I don’t think anyone has said that. The stats are going to put him on teams’ radars. We had a look and decided he was worth £3m or so and a long, presumably lucrative contract. Nobody else as far as I know did.

On further reflection, we put the collar on him, then auction the controller match by match. Will bring in important revenue and ensure sell out crowds every week.
Madsen Mins on 14:00 - Jan 12 with 1497 views | YokelR | I'd take the not all signings work out argument if he wasn't the most expensive one. His problem is he has no appetite for the game and won't even run around. If someone actually went and watched him assume they'd have thought yep that's why Stoke/ Watfor/Preston/Boro whoever don't want a 6'3" creative midfielder for that money he just poses and has got no bottle. Now where shall will go for lunch? My opinion is that it's precisely because everyone walked away that Nourry looked at his data and thought ill show all the dinosaurs who have played, coached, managed how it's done.

Madsen Mins on 09:55 - Jan 12 by dmm | There's no denying these stats are just awful. The only excuse I can think is, there's something going on in his life we don't know about that's affecting him. He has the skills and equipment but won't/can't apply them. Just speculation on my part. |
Don't speculate. There are some that will roll with that and repeat it ad infinitum until it enters the LFW Glossary. Just stick to the facts. Those stats are awful and he needs to buck his ideas up. [Post edited 12 Jan 20:25]

I like this idea. I would certainly bid big to be the controller. However, I think you could have a ten pound rocket taped up his arse and it wouldn't get him motivated. Even when he does move it is just to sort of waft about in vague proximity to the ball, there is never any intent to actually win it. As for the old troupe that there might be mental health/ other issues at play, judging by his social media feed with shopping in Knightsbridge and exploring the Michelin Guide, he doesn't look terribly upset. Indeed, he looks jolly happy with life, as well he might on a five-year-contract.

Madsen Mins on 07:54 - Jan 12 by StreathamRanger | I think he'll probably be loaned back to Belgium or similar standard league. We'll have to swallow some of his wages. Bad bit of business. Happens sometimes. At least Varane and Nardi are proving to be very good signings and Morgan is an absolute gem. You win some you lose some. |
That would be a perfectly rational comment if, as one of about 9 or 10 incomers, he had used up a comparable amount of the transfer budget. But he was our "marquee" signing.

Regardless of the precise figure I don't think anyone disputes that he is one of our two most expensive signings from the last window, widely reported to be around £3m. This club is not the only source of information, there is the agent and the selling club along with numerous other officials, friends, contacts etc who can all leak information. The bottom line is we have paid, on a 5-year contract, what is for us a huge amount of money on one of the most frustratingly disappointing players many of us can remember pulling on the shirt. As such this is a completely different category of failed signing than, for example, Santos might prove to be. I called Madsen the "friendly ghost" but I think Clive's "empty shirt" is better. The shirt is empty, and so too are our pockets.

Playing devil's advocate here...but given the hit & miss nature of ALL transfers...and a realistic goal being, say, between 50-70% becoming solid first team regulars...and one in four becoming an 'asset' we can sell on at a serious mark up...does it really matter which ones fall where in those stats? Yeah I know we are potentially stuck with the wages of a Madsen or Celar for some time or may have to sell them at a loss...but IF, say., that was countered by Morgan, who cost nothing, getting sold for several million, and so does Varane...and we get 3-4 decent seasons out of Nardi, Morrison and Dembele...would that make us look back at summer 2024 as a decent window?

Madsen Mins on 16:40 - Jan 13 with 537 views | aston_hoop | WLS who are the closest we have to a proper source say it was an initial £2 million, which is still aproximately £2 million more than he has shown us so far. Playing football just always looks such an inconvenience to him

I was really hoping he would come out flying against Leicester, but there was absolutely nothing. It almost looks like he's thinking 'Sod this, I'm off in the summer'. The lack of effort is insulting to us and his team mates who now just bypass him in any passing move. A big disappointment, I'm just hopeful we can recouped some of the money.

Well Morgan would have to sell for a seriously big fee. Lets say the Madsen fee is 2m (a very conservative estimate). Lets say he is on 20k a week (not ridiculous seeing as he cost 2m plus). That is £1m per year salary. So £5m in wages over 5 years. And with the 2m transfer fee that's 7m. Will we get 7m for Morgan? And that's just to break even, not leaving us any money to re-invest. So no, I just don't think you can count all transfers as being of equal significance, you have to judge according to outlay. Absolutely no problems with taking punts on the likes of Santos (possibly a fail but very early to tell) and Morgan (almost certainly a big win). But if you spend Madsen money on a player a club like us just can't afford to get it SO badly wrong. He is SO lacking in what is required of a Championship footballer I can only conclude that a) he wasn't scouted at all and we simply signed him on his stats, or b) he was watched when he was playing such low-grade, weak as piss opposition that no lessons should have been taken from the match, and c) the edict that we would from now on assess a player's character as well as playing performance must have been waived for this signing.
