Southampton Sack Nathan Jones
Sunday, 12th Feb 2023 10:07

Breaking news on the BBC Saints sack Nathan Jones after 3 months , read on for the club statement.

Saints have finally realised that the situation has to change and have issued this brief statement.

Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones.

First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.

First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.

So we now look for our third manager of the season , former River Plate manager Marcelo Gallardo is the bookies favourite, but a story is building that Steve Bruce is isn the running and will be appointed on a 18 month contract.

Bruce has extensive managerial experience, but on paper it doesn't look a good choice for Saints, since 2015 his only time in the Premier League has been the 2 years and 3 months he did at Newcastle between July 2019 and October 2021.

So farewell Nathan Jones, a sacking after only 3 months is harsh, especially as 6 weeks of that reign saw no football being played due to the World Cup break.

I don't celebrate the sacking of a manager, it is not a crime to fail as a football manager, most who get sacked are decent people, they just don't measure up to the task.

That is the case with Nathan Jones, he tried his best but it was clear he was out of his depth, his management style was abrasive and I think that several members of the squad will be happy to see the back of him.

Glad NJ has gone. He was out of his depth. Our deterioration over the last few years has imo coincided with lack of leadership on the pitch and when you get it from your manager as well then you’re doomed! Whoever comes in is going to need to find a leader !

If Saints are going to do the impossible, they need solutions to problems very quickly. Finding a solution, first means that you have to see the problem. I still think that they could do a lot worse than take on Jo Tessem as part of the coaching team until the end of the season. Anyone who has listened to his match day commentries will know that he seems to see things happened before the Saints players do.

All these sympathetic noises about Clueless Jones. How he’s a nice bloke etc.
What a load of utter rubbish. To my mind anybody who is as unprofessional, lacking in (football) nouse, deluded and an outright liar (“best in Europe”) as him is not a nice bloke. HE IS A TOTAL CON ARTIST AND FRAUD WHO HAS LEGGED EVERYBODY OVER, ESPECIALLY THE BOARD FOR WHICH HE DESERVES ABSOLUTELY ZERO SYMPATHY. PERIOD.

Kenis Saints did not have a recall option with regards to Stephens, They did ask but Bournemouth said No. With regards to Tella we have so many similar players in the squad so he would not of got game time so better off staying put and playing regular football.

IMHO we are as good as down, the players like and respect Selles, so we may as well go with him until the season end at least to see if he can cut it. If he does well problem solved, if he struggles then we have the close season to bring in what’s needed to get us back up.

On Tella - remember that both Adams and A. Armstrong were banging them in in that division.

I do have a bit of human sympathy for NJ, yes he largely brought things on himself but the general coverage of him was starkly in contrast to that of other failures like Lampard and Gerrard whose only qualification for top level management is that they are part of the ex-big player aristocracy. The TV talking heads were unlikely to have run into NJ over champagne and caviar at 'events'.
