Saints Linked With Tottenham Defender
Monday, 29th Jan 2018 09:21

Saints are being linked with a move for a Tottenham defender, but when you find out who and in what position you ask why !

Saints are being touted for a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker-Peters, the 20 year old is a right back and that is where the first question mark comes in, this position is well stocked at the club with Cedric Soares, Jeremy Pied and Jack Stephens all able to play there if required.

Secondly is the fact that KWP has very little experience for the North London Soccer Chickens, he made his debut for the club back in August and that remains his only start in the league, although he topped that up with 8 minutes as a sub in September.

His only other appearances came in Cup competitions where he started one game in the League cup and added two FA Cup appearances including the draw at Newport on Saturday, apart from these games he was given a 20 minute run out as a sub in the Champions League.

So why would Saints be interested in a 20 year old with such little experience in a relegation battle ? Yes he is known for his pace and ability to get up the line, but we have a plethora of players able to do that, it just doesnt make any sense.

Saints supporters who are eying the closure of the transfer window in a couple of days nervously would much rather see the likes of Quincy Prmoes arrive and a central defender.

As we are always being told, it's not all about now, though it's very difficult 'in this moment' to think that this might be one for the future? Wasn't that long ago then, that this was the accepted 'Southampton Way'.
Whilst we do expect any incomers currently to be a sort of flying doctor solution, we also know that the current players are probably just as frustrated as we are with formula and tasks they are being asked to perform.

Perhaps he can also play right wing and is our back up plan should the Promes deal collapse.

As it is a loan deal I would hardly say we are signing him as one for the future

What we so sorely need is a replacement for Les Reed. "They don't grow on trees you know", more's the bloody pity.

I think this lad is a top class player but agreed.. surely not a priority position! The only caveat to that is it depends how bad the injury to Bertrand is as Walkers-Peters could ofter cover either side of the defence.
