Crystal Palace in pole position to Appoint Mauricio Pellegrino
Monday, 19th Jun 2017 11:40

Arron Sanders takes a look at the news that Crystal Palace are in pole position to sign Saints target Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager.

According to The Times, Crystal Palace are reportedly in pole position to sign Mauricio Pellegrino as their next manager, despite strong interest from Southampton.

Southampton are also considering Pellegrino for the job following the dismissal of Claude Puel.

Pellegrino, who assisted Rafael Benitez at Liverpool and Inter Milan, took Alaves to a ninth-place league finish last season.

It would come as a bit of a blow to the Southampton board, to lose out to a target reported on the already shortened shortlist.

With Some reports recently stating the Argentine's name is at the very top of the list.

There is conflicting reports this morning however on the issue, with The Sun reporting Pellegrino is close to being appointed at St Marys.

Hopefully there will not be too long to wait for answer, with the club seemingly setting a deadline to have appointment made in the next 10 days.

As ever supporters follow all the twists and turns with interest.

It's a negotiating strategy.

Am I wrong to be wondering why we are always linked to the same targets as Crystal Palace? A club that spent much of the last two seasons flirting with relegation.

Pretty sure that we would have something wrapped up before we sacked Puel. There may be reasons we don't know that prevent disclosure. Maybe we are working compensation out with another club for instance. Saints could look less than classy if we didn't treat the other club with respect.

Considering the Sun and the Times are owned by the same corporation, it's laughable they have differing stories. All newspapers are a joke! They should be called bolloxpapers. Except the Echo of course 😉

Not too many people seem particularly thrilled at the prospect of this guy.

I am! I posted on an earlier thread that Pellegrino would be pretty good, given he is in a similar mould to Pottechtino.

And for those who keep saying "I expected SFC to have had this sorted out before sacking Puel etc. should now calm down given the news about Schmidt.

Pint-sized saint, what makes you believe he's in the mould of Pochettino? Everything I read suggests he's very defensive. This article suggests he's the opposite of Pochettino http://readsouthampton.com/2017/06/19/mauricio-pellegrino-suit-southampton-way/
I know very little about him or his style myself so am interested in more information
