Garry Monk Immediately Linked With Saints After Resignation From Leeds United
Thursday, 25th May 2017 14:05

Es Saints player Garry Monk has surprisingly resigned from his position as Leeds United manager leading to speculation that he has another job lined up.

With Leeds United's new owner Andrea Radrizzani only completing his takeover of the club two days ago it was widely expected that Garry Monk would accept another 12 month option on his contract and begin talks for a longer term deal as Leeds confirmed in an official statement.

"We are shocked and disappointed by Garry's decision but his resignation has been reluctantly accepted by chairman Andrea Radrizzani.

"Andrea made it clear to the media yesterday that his intention was to exercise the club's option to extended the manager's contract for another 12 months and immediately begin negotiations for a longer-term deal."

This has lead to speculation that Monk already has been sounded out by another club and Southampton are one of those being linked.

Monk spent 8 years as a Saints player before joining Swansea City in 2004, although during that time he only started 9 Premier league games for the club plus another 2 as sub adding a couple of cup appearances to make it an unlucky 13 before joining Swansea then in League 2 to begin a career in South Wales that would see him play in all four divisions and become manager.

His stock has risen as a manager since leading to the link of a return to St Mary's this time in charge of the team.

This is obvious speculation at present, but with the silence from St Mary's deafening about Claude Puel's future it is easy to see why so many in the media will put two and two together on this one.

He crashed and burned at Swansea so why would he be seen as suitable for us? Laughable.

Another one in need of a personality transplant. We need someone to engage with and inspire the supporters.

Find the biggest yes-man on the planet and Les will appoint him. That's if he doesn't keep Puel to save face.

You must be kidding, I'd rather they stick with Puel and I stay away than appoint a bloke who couldn't get Leeds out of the Championship.

What's the problem with Les reed❓
7 years of progress & sustainability
This year perhaps hasn't been a disaster & yet Les reed is slaughtered?
I don't get it it

agree totally with lemmsy. We are a well run sustainable club and whilst not perfect Les Reed has overseen the growth of the academy and the signing of a number of top players and managers. Just look at the improvement of Oriel and Virgil since signing for us. It has been one heck of ride over the last few years and whilst I accept last season has not been that entertaining despite the final position and Puel has not given me a lot of confidence the people responsible for running the club including LR have done a great job.

Well said Petesmaterob. I don't get the Les bashing. Strange/unrealistic expectations and a reluctance to give credit where it's due I would suggest. Some folks are never happy.

I also think as much as it is frustrating when we sell players it is how we have succeeded so far,
For example, when dean lovren was sold there was dismay but if we hadn't sold him we wouldn't have found vandyk❗️❓
IMO players & managers r temporary the club is forevermore

Only the fans are for ever more, nobody else gives a monkey's boss. SFC is just a name. It has no meaning, it is not an entity with soul and character.

Most importantly Gary Monk would be the right price regardless of his ability.
