Saints Look To France For Latest Schneiderlin Replacement
Wednesday, 8th Jul 2015 09:37

Saints are being linked with another new possibility as a replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin, this time from Marseille.

Saints are being linked with Marseille midfielder Mario Lemina by French newspaper L'Equipe.

The defensive midfielder who will be 22 in September started at Lorient (thats the French team not the London club) he joined Marseille in 2013 and has been an important member of their squad.

He has made 51 appearances for Marseille in his two seasons there and with three years left on his contract they are keen to hold on to him.

But the player himself is keen for regular first team football and he isn't quite first choice for Marseille and therefore Saints could tempt him away, the rumour is that an unnamed club, possibly Saints have already had a 5 million euros bid rejected but could land him for a little more.

In many ways this would be ironic, to replace Schneiderlin a player we took from obscurity in France and replace him with another promising French youngster.

Lamina although winning a U21 cap for France was born in Gabon, he was selected for their African Cup Of Nations squad in January 2015, but turned it down presumably wishing to push his claims for the French International squad,he may feel that a move to the Premier will aid him in that quest.

A French Connection? I was told we only imported goods from The Netherlands.

Shades of The Magpies here and look what happened to them, typically all the French players went on a skills strike.

"this would be ironic, to replace Schneiderlin a player we took from obscurity in France and replace him with another promising French youngster". And therein lies the enormous problem. It took MS several years to develop - his replacement needs to be as good as him from day one...

Corky was never anywhere near as popular with managers as he was with the fans. Maybe managers should watch from the cheap(er) seats sometimes!
