Boruc Out For Six Weeks
Monday, 2nd Dec 2013 09:33

Although a minority of the fans have criticised him in recent weeks Artur Boruc has still been one of our most consistent performers, now it looks like he will be out to mid January at least.

Artur Boruc looks to be out for the rest of the year and well into January with reports suggesting he has fractured his hand whilst conceding Chelsea's equaliser on Sunday.

This is a big blow for Saints as the Polish keeper was one of the main reasons why Saints have been so mean defensively this season, not only has he produced some quality saves that often have kept Saints in the game, but his all round game is superb, his handling is top knotch, his ability to command not only his six yard box but his area is second to none in the Premier League not to mention his kicking and distribution which is speedy and accurate.

Of course there will be the odd mistake as happened at Arsenal, but in the long run Artur Boruc has saved Saints a lot more goals than he has cost them, not only that but his quick distribution and ability to pass the ball out rather than punt it up field randomly has been a key part of Saints pressing game, perhaps an area that few Saints supporters have given him credit for.

Ironically enough when I read the internet after this injury, many of those who were loudest in condemning him for perceived mistakes in recent games are now the loudest in bemoaning his loss and perhaps worse slagging off Paulo Gazzaniga before he has had a chance.

Artur Boruc will be a big loss for Saints, personally I havent seen many Premier league keepers better than him this season, however it is not the end of the world that many are predicting, both Kelvin Davis & Paulo Gazzaniga have Premiership experience and both played in winning sides last season, its a set back, but one that if everyone pulls together we can get through.

Thought Gazza did ok yesterday. Good luck to him an I hoe he keeps out Boruc by playing well.

Ok so whose our reserve keeper for Wednesday if both Boric and Davis aren't fit? I thought it was Forecast but just seen he was released in the summer and now plays for Dartford on loan. How can someone worth a million 3 yrs ago fall from grace so quickly?
Will it be someone from the academy ? We've yet to produce a keeper from the academy so that would be good.

Good question, should we put the academy keeper on the bench or go without a keeper and use an outfield player as we used to in the old days, I seem to remember Rickie Lambert fancied himself as a keeper

Agree with Nick about the value of Boruc to the team throughout this season (and the second half of last season too).

I feel that playing KD (even if he was available) would bring more experience but undoubtedly would undermine the confidence of the defence because of his consistently limp performances when it comes to dominating his the six yard box and beyond. Good shot stopper, yes , but also susceptible to failings at his near post.

There's more to be gained by giving Gazzaniga an extended run and the crowd has a big part to play in helping him to build his confidence, not destroying him with public criticism which can only lead to our own downfall and the moaning sections of the crowd will bear a large element of the blame for that.
