Gaston Ramirez States He Is Happy At Saints
Gaston Ramirez States He Is Happy At Saints

Speaking to an Italian Football Website Gaston Ramirez has reiterated he is happy where he is at St Mary's.

Saints club record signing Gaston Ramirez has told the Italian Press that despite alleged interest from Juventus and Fiorentina that he is not looking for a return to Serie A.

In fairness its been a chequered year for the Uruaguayan who at times has looked brilliant, but more often than not struggled with the pace of the Premier league, under Mauricio Pochettino appearances became less frequent and after featuring in the starting line up of Pochettinos early teams found himself on the bench more often than he would have liked.

This being the case he only played around a third of the minutes he could hve played under the new manager, yes some of this was down to his suspension that caused him to miss the final three games, but even accounting for that he would have still played well under half of the game time he could have played.

“There is a lot of talk about the transfer market but I think I'll stay at Southampton" Ramirez told an Italian football website.

"I want to repay the trust of the club. I'm happy in England and I have always dreamed of playing in the Premier League.

"There has been talk in the past of interest from Fiorentina and they are a club that I like. But Southampton count on me a lot."

So the big question is whether Ramirez is ready to knuckle down and make his second season a big success and indeed whether Mauricio Pochettino sees him as  major part of his plans for the coming season.

He clearly has a ton of talent, and there were a few games where they looked silky smooth moving forward and he was always involved with those plays. So, I'd love to see him stick around. I just hope they can keep it up. When they are on their game, they are the most fun team to watch.

It's true that I have been a big defender of Ramirez on this website, however I have to admit I don't like the way this guy speaks to the media about SFC and his career. It's always statements like these: "SFC count on me... They have offered me a lot of money...", "I've always dreamed of the Premier..." - this is the typical pattern of considered-do-be-star players lacking orientation where they really find themselves. This is clearly not the way a footballer should present himself to the fans if he wants to be connected to a certain club. Sadly, Ramirez has never expressed a clear engagement with the Saints cause - just the mercenary who thinks he is a good pro...

Gaston is showing signs of naivety, as well as indications that he says what his agent tells him to. While this can be good tactics in Italy or South America, this is definitely not the way a guy would prove himself in a "typical" English club (e.g. Man City, ManU excluded).

I still have a soft spot on Ramirez, but even before he starts playing well for our club, he needs to start speaking properly about SFC and his life as a Saints player. We don't need latino primadonnas governed by egos and agents. I hope Saints stay in that category even after we reach the Champions League :)

Im sure he is happy at Saints. An hour a week at work for say £30,000 is not a bad rate of pay id say.
