QPR v Reading Betting Preview Friday, 2nd Nov 2012 19:18 by LFW Pundits Three pundits involved this week as LFW looks ahead to a crunch six pointer with Reading at Loftus Road and a weekend of sporting opportunity. The LFW Betting Column has been a bit of an also-ran in recent years. Often not posted until late on Friday night, the last job of the week, rarely picking any winners anyway, an unloved part of the site. Listen, that was then, this is now, this stuff is now worth paying attention to. Another 8/1 and 5/6 success last week and the list of previous winners is now growing so long I’m having to think of ways to reformat the page. Pay attention, you may win some money. Andy HillmanWinners so far: NAP - Norwich vs QPR - Both teams to score @ 4/6, 24/8/12 LONGSHOT - Tottenham vs West Brom - Lay Tottenham @ 2/1, 24/8/12 NOTEBOOK - Stoke vs Arsenal, Liverpool vs Man City , draw double, 7/1, 24/07/12 QPR related Bet - Zamora to score anytime v Man City at 11/2, 30/08/12 Longshot - Tottenham vs Norwich - lay Spurs @ 1.4, 30/08/12 Notebook - Roma to beat Inter @ 3/1 30/08/12 Nap – Man Utd to win to nil v Wigan , 11/10, 13/09/12 Longshot – double as part of a Premiership Yankee at 10/1, 13/09/12 Longshot – Premier League double at 9/1, 21/09/12 NAP- Chelsea vs Stoke - Chelsea to win to nil @ 11/8, 21/09/12 Longshot – Premier League double at 4/1, 29/09/12 Europe to win the Ryder Cup at 2/1, 29/09/12 QPR related bet: Goal in the first 15 minutes v West Brom @ 9/4, 05/10/12 Notebook: Barcelona vs Real Madrid - Ronaldo to score anytime @ 13/10, 05/10/12 Longshot: Southampton v Fulham, Swansea v Reading draw double: @ 10/1, 05/10/12 NAP - West Brom vs Man City - Both teams to score @ 4/5, 18/10/12 Longshot - Goals Galore 8/1 Quad, 18/10/12 NAP - Sheffied United to beat Portsmouth @ 5/6, 25/10/12 Longshot - Sunday afternoon ‘Goals Galore’ @ 8/1, 25/10/12 As predictable as a QPR away defeat, my accumulator landed again over the weekend, netting another set of 4/1, 4/1, 4/1 and 8/1 winners. This means that for the last SIX weeks in a row, I’ve netted at least a 4/1 shot, and in that period two 10/1’s, two 8/1s and a whole host of grouped 4/1’s together. Someone on twitter even offered to buy me a drink! NAP: Chelsea to beat Swansea @ 16/19 I just can’t quite fathom why Chelsea are such long odds (relatively) to beat Swansea. The thick end of evens to beat a side which appears to have peaked way too early strikes me as insane value, and a great way to double any potential accumulator winnings to boot... QPR related Bet: QPR to beat Reading @ 11/13 Yeah, I’m backing us to win against Reading. I actually had us down to beat Reading before the 7-5 defeat to Arsenal (I laughed like a drain...) there have been green shoots of recovery for us, and I get the feeling that it’s finally going to click at the 19th time of asking... Longshot: New Manager Double - Blackburn & Ipswich to win away @ 13/2 Henning Berg and Mick McCarthy take over at Blackburn & Ipswich, faced with away games at Birmingham & Palace respectively. I’d probably fancy Blackburn at Palace even without new manager syndrome. Ipswich at Birmingham is much riskier, but Birmingham are notoriously unreliable at the best of times. The Inevitability of facing your former club Banker: Van Persie to score first against Arsenal @ 9/2 Like there is any doubt in anyone’s mind that Van Persie is going to score for Man Utd against Arsenal. It’d be worth it just to watch Piers Morgan’s twitter feed. Brian PowerWinners so far: NAP - Norwich vs QPR - Both teams to score @ 4/6, 24/8/12 Nap – Tranmere to beat Colchester 21/10, 30/08/12 LONGSHOT Ian Poulter 8/1 top European points scorer at Ryder Cup, 29/09/12 LONGSHOT - Saints/Fulham 12/5 , Liverpool/Stoke 10/3 draw double 05/10/12 Previously advised: Villa to win the League Cup Each Way 18/1 David Weir, Sports Personality of the Year, each way 40/1 If I were to have a bet on Sunday the both teams to score market would be the one. I know it is odds on but Reading always score and cannot defend so it should be nailed on. NAP Gus McRae 3.45 Ascot Saturday Rebecca Curtis is a trainer who I have been keeping an eye on. She has a smallish string of horses but JP McManus has some in training with her and the combo of them plus McCoy is worth watching. Gus McRae is not one these but runs at Ascot after winning at Aintree last Sunday and is worth a bet. He has penalty after last week’s win but should go close. LONGSHOT Newcastle to beat Liverpool 11/2 Liverpool are a club in decline, they are a long way from being a top 4 club again and have a striker who spends more time diving than scoring. You would feel a little sorry for Brendan Rodgers looking at his strike force until you see that he let Carroll go and when it was obvious he needed a striker went and spent 15 million on Joe Allen. Newcastle have a great scouting setting up and Pardew has made some good signings and with Cisse and Ba up front will cause most teams problems. The 11/2 on offer from BoyleSports is way too big and we should take advantage. ONE FOR THE NOTEBOOK With Villa getting through in midweek and now facing a reasonable tie at Norwich our voucher is giving us a run for our money. The Melbourne Cup takes place next week and it is a race that brings a nation to a standstill. We have a similar thing here but it is called snow. Red Cadeux is available at 10/1 and a cheeky fiver is worth risking especially if you are an insomniac as it starts at 04.20 our time. Finally good luck to my old mate Kev McSweeney who is taking part in the New York Marathon. Kev contacted me last week to discuss some of my previous selections and of course all advice is greatly received especially from someone who once advised me to have a bet on Michelle Collins ( her from Eastenders and now Corrie) getting to number one as she was singing the theme tune to the programme Sunburn. My cash stayed in my pocket and Miss Collins stayed off the top of the charts. Come on you R’s. The ProWinners so far: Norwich v QPR, 11/10 Under 2.5 goals 24/08/12 West Brom v QPR, more than 2.5 goals, 4/5, 05/10/12 James Morrison to score anytime v QPR, 5/1, 05/10/12 QPR and Everton to draw 13/5, 18/10/12 Previously advised: Cisse to finish top QPR scorer in Premier League, 9/4 Stan James, 17/08/12 It’s short and Sweet from the bookmaker this week. The first six pointer of the season and QPR are around the 5/6 mark generally for this one. That price is probably about right and doesn’t interest me. However, Rangers have put in a couple of decent first half performances lately and came out all guns blazing against Everton during their last home game and I expect them to do the same here. As to how Reading will react to the amazing game on Tuesday night remains to be seen but the fact is these kind of games need to be won if relegation is to be avoided. The Royal's squad looks like a top Championship squad with a smattering of Premiership quality players but no more. They have an average defence and a very average midfield. The Rangers midfield has shown great promise in recent games and I expect them to put Reading under a lot of pressure on Sunday. My recommended bet is QPR to be winning at half time at 13/8 with Betfred. Hughes was rightly aggrieved after things went against the side at Arsenal last week, but looking at the two teams on paper, for this one, there are no excuses.
