T' 2024 County Championship
at 12:43 1 Sep 2024

I really thought Bohannon was going to be an excellent No.3, but I have lots of doubts if the openers haven’t got through twenty overs.
We seem a million miles away from that team picks itself, even allowing for the seamer v a spinner discussion. Living in Essex where the leagues structure is not as strong I think we should be a solid side every year. Disappointed.

Sir Peter makes his debut
at 12:33 1 Sep 2024

Just caught the highlights. My first Spotland visit won’t be until the Southend game, but I wish I was at this one. The options in midfield are really good. Who would have thought last year’s player of the season might have difficulty holding down a place in the centre. Then there is Burger on the bench. The recruitment this summer was excellent. Have no idea of the process these days but it’s certainly working. Someone mention Sassi, is that sorted or still speculation?
Have always had faith in Mitchell and very pleased he got some praise on here. With Allarakia, Mcbride the aforementioned Burger, and the wing recruits we have plenty of front foot players.
I just hope we haven’t shown our hand to much with what we can do when teams that allow us space. Scoring first and in the first half will be key to our ability to breakdown defences for much of the season.
Hope when we next lose some will remember this match and cut BJ some slack, but that is a forlorn one.

Sir Peter makes his debut
at 19:17 31 Aug 2024

I’ll have a go at representing the “I only post when we lose brigade”

Clearly as a reward for his contribution in resurrecting the club Sir Peter was allowed to pick the team and tactics. The evidence being that the side adopted plan B, and as we are frequently told Jim doesn’t have one. Players shot at the goals and again we are told the McNulty will chastise any play for have a go at scoring a goal. Additionally the substitutes made a difference and BJ’s never do. Further evidence will surface when Sir Peter does that after match interview and it’s worth listening to.
All this mounts up to McNulty’s day’s here being numbered. No point in him remaking on the payroll on this showing.

TO-DAYS GAME
at 13:52 25 Aug 2024

One phrase often used in football is “ I don’t mind a forward missing chances, as long as he keeps getting them”. Well despite some lovely wing play and overlapping runs resulting in balls across the box no one is getting close to a chance let alone converting one. Not what I expected this season.
I think the squad is good enough, and a couple of additions will strengthen it further, but the supporters need something to get behind.
Tweaks rather than radical change. Over to you BJ.

But who’s opinion of the best players would prevail.
Campaigning for smaller squad sizes might be the way forward for some, but that horse has bolted. The idea of Bill Shankley playing his best 11 in a game against lowly cup opposition, for good or bad, is over.

TVOS - Rochdale v Dagenham & Redbridge

From a distance, highlights only, that was encouraging. Interesting comments about another forward. I thought M&R really started to gel at the end of last season and they have plenty of goals in them this season. However it is clear that Rodders is not best served playing as a centre forward. They also both have their injury issue and Hendo is not a 30 plus starts player these days. If you bring in a traditional target man I see it only being as cover for the two who started yesterday. Can see the club waiting a a good few games, perhaps until the close of the FL window, before tying to pick up a reasonable FL journeyman.
The current formation eases the issue of a lack of centre half’s, but I could see a young loanee from a FL side coming in.
With 3 games in 6 days it will be interesting to see how the squad is utilised this week.
Predictions:
Top 10 finish
Positive goal difference of at least 12
Therefore McNulty stays in role for the duration of the season.

Bit surprised at the two year.deal. If things don’t work out they could flip him easier on a one.
I’ll get me coat!

This is a very young squad. In Jim I trust.

Not sure how old you are, but same sh-t different tournament doesn’t really hold true if you remember Scotland not England were the UK representatives in two successive world cups.
We have become what Italy were at one time. Poor in the group stages but went a long way.
Hope Southgate steps down now. The job must be draining. He can go having the highest % of wins of any England manager in tournament football. That is some achievement given his mediocre club record.

Just think the Spanish will not fear us so won’t bother trying to stifle our talent. Just the same attitude as Holland had in the first half, and so for the first time this tournament it clicked in the opponents half. So to me we have a punchers chance, provided we can operate as a back 3 and not get forced into a back 5, no easy task, and can stop them scoring in the first half. My worst case scenario would be if England took an early lead. The temptation to drop deep would be to difficult to resist.

Aaron Henry joins on loan.

For his age he has a decent amount of experience. Clayton had physicality and bags of bags of experience, yet I sense Henry could be his pass picking replacement in midfield. That area of the field is really taking shape now.
Happy with this one.

Sorry, not sure if your post and and question are a direct response to my post. I was merely pointing out that as a nation, and I mean nation we are more to the centre left. Although the Greens are furthest to the left of the parties that stood 500 plus candidates, they are are a long way from being a Socialist Worker type regime.
Agree with your point about migration, but you are taking your eye of the ball focusing on uncontrolled /illegal migration. The controlled migration is putting most of the strain on our community services. Sure the Ukraine situation did not help the figures. Controlling migration without hindering growth will be the trick. Ms Cooper and Ms Reeves can argue that out.
As for Reform being in power, while Mr Farage controls 53% of the company and treats it as a fiefdom rather than a party, I think they will struggle to overtake the Conservatives let alone take power. Plus populism tends to fade when people begin to see improvements in their living standards. The facist movement all but disappeared in this country by the mid 60s.

Luv it. What’s not to like with this signing. Feel we haven’t had a nailed down start at left back for a while. He fits the bill

Thought Paul Waugh was good on Breakfast TV this morning. I am hopeful he will be a good MP. Just hope he is not to personally ambitious and put constituents first.

A couple of months ago John Curtice pointed out that the polls had for months shown a 60/40 split for more left leaning voters over right. Not including NI, where the left is more popular, the result of the election was more or less still 60/40. Much of it coalesced around the centre left. In a time where desperation is so evident and many countries are seeing strong moves towards right/far right popularism I think the election result shows our nation in positive light.

A large turnout would be a very good sign for the political process. I was sceptical and expected the lowest turnout for over a generation.
Sadly I think my first ever opportunity to vote in a Labour MP will be thwarted by those pesky boundary changes.
Best result from my view point.
A Labour majority
Waugh beats Galloway
The Conservatives get double the number of votes of Reform
The Greens get 3 seats
Farage gets beat in Clacton

As for the concept that the Unions will have a big say in the cabinet, I think there’s more chance of flights heading off to Rwanda.

A super first two sessions. Anderson was literally having a ball. Still 42 overs today, weather permitting. 2 or 3 wickets in the last session will do nicely.

Being tied into a 4 or possibly 5 year deal is a decent outcome for us. If he progresses well clubs higher up the pyramid will not want to wait for the last year of the contract before stepping in with a bid. This is a good story for all involved. Jim must be buzzing that the early season gamble on George has turned out so well.
