Charlie Taylor Burnley
at 22:47 28 Jun 2024

The paper this morning says Taylor in on a two contract , free transfer and that McCarthy gets a two year extension. Also they are reporting the westham deal Ings and Downes for Walker Peters is virtually done.

Great to see business being done early with more signings to come CB x2 , midfielder and forward / winger being talked about also.

One year yesterday Russell Martin joined Southampton.
at 08:17 22 Jun 2024

My thoughts are that it has been a success as although he has had a lot of stick for the way of playing and never changing it whoever and his game management as a manager he has been good for us.
Got a team that was lacking any belief, believing again after a disastrous past season.
Seems to have everyone within the club pulling in one direction and if not he is not standing in anyone’s way to leave.
Changed the whole way the players are coached and playing although that has taken some time.
The way we play is not without risk which some supporters cannot and will not buy into but that is everyone’s choice.
Most of his loan players have been a real success which appears to be his influence by who arrived.
Lost some expensive transfers early on in the job but has got on with the job and has achieved the first goal of returning to the Prem.
Gave us all one of our greatest memories of being a Saints supporter last season at Wembley.

This season will be a real test , he needs to strengthen the side in multipule positions using basement transfers and loans but appears to be adding experience to the dressing room which is a plus after our learnings of two years ago.
He needs to keep his job and that will be his hardest challenge as St Mary’s can go toxic very quickly and I just hope that even if we are losing games the support / management will stick with him for the whole season as changing managers so regularly makes you spiral into eventually the championship and beyond and if we don’t watch it we could end up with Southgate , Moyes or Harry as our next manager! And I for one has found it refreshing for someone to come along with fresh ideas to a club.

Anyway that’s my review look forward to hearing what others think.

Southampton Linked To Reunion With Armando Broja
at 08:04 20 Jun 2024

His value must be dropping as he can’t get in the Albanian team who I have to say have been a breath of fresh air at the Euros with their gun ho attitude makes for exciting football. Less tactics and more guts and passion.

Initial Transfer Action Doesn't Augur Well
at 08:01 20 Jun 2024

Your be surprised Saints22 transfers are difficult to get over the line until the target has worked out who is in for them hence the late arrivals but this year might be different as we are going for experience who are grateful that a premiership club is showing interest, loan players that they and us know what they are about , ex players that Martin and his staff have worked with in the past and a couple of bigger signings that they will pull a rabbit out of a hat so I expect 5 or 6 signings early as above and then a couple of bigger signings that might excite you but that might be difficult with you , nearer to deadline day and one of those is someone playing at the Euros at present

Personally if they could sign 3 or 4 experienced out of contract players to support the youngsters and to see games out , two loanees signed full time & then 1 g/keeper , two cbs , one full back , 1 mdf , 1 winger , 1 forward 10 players and get rid of the loanees we have out and anyone else that wants to leave the club.

When you look at the rumours much of it fits the list above which I would be happy to go into the season with.

Some Tragic News About SFC_Referee

I didn’t know him but enjoyed his comments on here as he was 19 and so young on the first home game of the season we should try and organise a 1 minute applause to recognise his dedication to Saints and football in general.

The 2024/25 Fixtures Are Out For Saints
at 06:17 19 Jun 2024

We need to be safe with three games to go when you see the fixtures against two of the likely top 3 teams and then Everton who are celebrating in the Liverpool echo because of

No one team has lost more Premier League games at Goodison Park than Southampton with 16 defeats. It is the same total as West Ham United but the Hammers have taken 28 matches rather than the Saints’ 24 to reach that total and have also won seven times compared to the Hampshire outfit’s total of just two.

They recon it’s the first bit of charity that the Premiership has given them for a few seasons , let’s prove that wrong COYR.

Experienced team players to be in the squad to give 30 mins and all there experience to the younger members of the team , whether they can offer us much more we will have to wait and see but it was vital to get some experience and both on free transfers so what’s the risk?

A couple of big signings coming with a CB and Keeper being worked on asap.
Early business vital to start training with a full squad.

Sorry I forgot !

We all know it’s going to be a tough season and calls for heads to roll will come but let’s at least keep the momentum of success at Wembley going till the first kick of the season.

But agree my fingers got carried away And couldn’t stop typing!

The positivity of Saint22 for one day after the play off final seems to have worn off and he is back to his negativity of the players , club , manager etc no one knows what they are doing etc !

I would like to ask you.

1)Have you ever targeted anything in your life and been successfully at negotiating a deal?
2) You seem to think that as a club we should sign every player that is available that someone happens to mention is for sale. What do you know about Patrick Pentz ?
3) With the change in the stadium layout and hopefully a better atmosphere , the positivity of the fans ( Although that will be interesting to see how long that lasts with a few heavy defeats! ) and with people like Saint22 slagging off the owners , team , manager and whoever else he wants to moan at we need to stick together as this season is one of survival and maybe a cup run not expectation of winning the league etc like last season. We are likely to lose more games then we win or draw but we will need to stick together especially this coming season. Palace supporters are a good example of sticking together , they have a sh!t ground until recently a very average team , a boring old past it manager until recently but they have a hardcore of tremendous supporters who make a hell of a noise and try to remain positive that one day it might be their turn to do something special.
4) We need to buy some experience to help the youngsters and be able to manage the time on the pitch so rather then slag a transfer off try and workout why they might of bought that player and for what role he might be used for. Sometimes we haven’t a clue why and it’s a crap decision but they tried to make something of it. I bet if we had bought Wotton from Blackburn it would have been a crap buy and look what has happened to him in half a season , England Euros squad.
4) Are you married and if so are you like this at home moaning about absolutely everything as you must be a nightmare to live with.
5) In your mind how long has Martin got 5 games , up to Christmas, Easter or maybe the whole season or are you going to be asking him to be sacked even before the season starts.

Come on Saint22 just for once can’t you stop criticising every transfer that they have missed , every player that hasn’t been sold and everything about a club that although it can be frustrating to support we have it in our blood to support and keep coming back to although it hurts us so much over weeks , years , decades it’s our club and we all love it deep down and is part of our DNA.

Come on you Saints.

Rant over I will shut up now.

I have just seen that Spurs are letting Ryan Sesseegnon leave on a free . He was brilliant at Fulham and if we could keep him fit he would be a great signing for Free.

That’s what they should do and share the money into grass roots football and the smaller leagues.

Potential points deduction

If City had been given 65 points penalty they would have still stayed up!! So fines and points deductions will not be a disaster and they won 4 premierships during that time which will be on record so if they miss it next year they will focus on the cups !

What was the point of signing Lis or was it a bit of a fiddle on two of club SRs financial books. He kept 20 clean sheets and got promoted with the Turkish side.
Any idea how much they paid for him to add to our coffers as I hadn’t heard he had been sold to them.

Sign Ramsdale , Downes , Doughty from Luton and zings and I would be happy.

Are any of the loan players worth considering again , I always thought Alcarez and Bella Kotchap had enough for the Prem and do we know enough about this keeper we signed called Lis.

Am I odd?????
at 05:42 30 May 2024

I love the championship due to all the things mentioned previously but with Chelsea , Man Utd and Liverpool all maybe with new managers let’s hope we can play them early season while they are rebuilding and the key to the Premiership is money and the security of the finance if we don’t waste it on below average transfers.
The money and parachute payments will help secure the club for a few more years.

I might be mad but due to the mention changes above with a chance of not getting hammered against them, points deductions by some clubs and the Prem being a two horse race we might just survive.

Any one know how good Lis is as we signed him last year and as we had had no option but send him out on loan until Alex Mc contract ran out because of the wages he was on let’s not forget that one signing of a experienced Prem keeper , Lis and Baz might just sort it for us.

Looks as if liverpools reserve keeper Kelleher is about to come on the market , with him Lis finishing his loan deal and Baz at least we have three keepers to compete with each other.

Ramsdale is the other option if we could afford him!
