| News Comment | Is Russel Martin’s Priority Southampton FC Or His Own Agenda at 10:51:40
Kompany could walk in to most jobs based on his playing career alone. Not sure if playing a few times for Scotland carries that same sort of weight. I'm not defending RM but we've somehow acquired a painfully weak squad and I'm not sure if we'd be any higher up the table with a different playing style or a different manager. Not having a proven goalscorer is basically suicide. I really enjoyed last season, it's a shame that fans are starting to be so vitriolic towards the manager. Although he is being paid an absolute fortune and shagging Lucy Pinder, so f*ck him.... |
| News Comment | Southampton At Portsmouth The Women's Game Verdict at 17:16:21
To balance things out a bit, after reading Nick's article about watching non league football on Saturday, I attended my local team's Wessex League match and the standard was rubbish and the officials received terrible stick from the players, coaches and crowd. If I had to choose between one or the other I think I'd rather watch a Saints women's match. |
| News Comment | Sekou Mara Departs at 19:16:46
I hope he does ok at Strasbourg, but I cant help but wonder if Dom Ballard and perhaps one or two others would have developed a lot quicker if the club had not bought Mara in the first place. They certainly couldn't have contributed much less. |

Jack must be very confused if he ever reads Nick's match reports. It's clearly his fault, but at the same time he's clearly not to blame. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Cardiff City The Verdict at 11:51:32
Hopefully at least Saturday will put to bed the theory that Jack Stephens is the reason behind all our problems. Surely the real problem is that to play the tippy tappy football we play you need skillful players who can pass the ball all day. And when it works it looks brilliant. Unfortunately, at our level those type of players don't tend to be the ones who can stick their foot in when it matters the most. You watch other teams and they defend for their lives. How many goals have we conceded from deflections when we've let the oppo have a shot from outside the box when we should have closed them down? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Middlesbrough The Verdict at 13:32:49
Astonishing Nick. Our centre forward misses a couple of chances you'd expect an average Hants League striker to bury and you still manage to apportion blame on Jack Stephens. Are you I_Would in disguise? |
| News Comment | Southampton V Watford The FA Cup Replay Preview at 11:09:36
Stick the reserves in tonight. Admittedly, I haven't seen the reserves play in a fair while. My team would be: Phil Kite Tim Coak Bill Beaney Forbes Phillipson-Masters Allan Tankard Eamonn Collins George Shipley Buster Crabbe Kevin Dawtry Ian Juryeff Terry Spinner |
| News Comment | FA Cup 4th Round Memories 28th January 1984 Fratton Park at 14:24:17
Incredible day. Best goal celebration ever. I remember walking down the dodgy footpath behind the North Stand before the game and there was a Pompey bloke handing out bananas. I wondered at the time what he was doing, he didn't look like he was on a health kick. I was fortunate enough to have a terrace ticket under the South Stand which was normally their family section (surely only Pompey could have a family stand with a great big f*ck-off fence to keep people off the pitch!!). My memory's a bit shot but I'm sure one of their lot had wire cutters and was trying to cut a hole in the dividing fence behind the players tunnel to get at us. At the final whistle for some reason they opened the gates in our section and we were allowed straight out, so we missed all the stuff when the main Saints contingent were let out . It was fantastic walking up Goldsmith Avenue, desperately trying not to smile too much, watching the apoplectic neanderthals storm past us on their way to try and get at the away section. Later on we watched as the police chased dozens of Pompey hooligans by the big church in Fratton Road. At one point the police actually drove a squad car into the graveyard after them. Never been so relieved to leave a town after a game. If I can lose about 4 stone before Sunday I might wear the Air Florida shirt I wore that famous day at Fratton Dump. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict at 11:59:54
Not sure how it can be said that the players aren't obeying the manager's orders. The corners are a perfect example. We weren't leaving anyone back in the first half against Leicester and we looked vulnerable every time the opposition won the ball back (or more often, we gave it to them). RM had ample opportunity to sort it out and didn't, and the inevitable breakaway goal ensued. I wonder if he has so much confidence in our ability to keep the ball that he's not spent any time instructing the players what they should be doing when we lose it. Hopefully he'll turn it round but it's gonna take some major changes to his principles or we'll just keep getting battered. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Verdict at 09:40:16
So it's only just dawned on Nick that Doyle and Ballard would be a better option than most of the other perpetual failures we've been playing all season? A bit late now, mate. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 11:32:54
Ankerson somehow managed to find us a manager with less idea how to win a football match than Nathan Jones. Saturday's game was lost at 2pm when the team was announced. If we're going down at least give it a go FFS. |
| News Comment | Southampton at West Ham United The Verdict at 10:34:27
How the hell can defensive errors be the reason for us going down? How does Nick think we were ever going to stay up... 38 nil-nil draws? Look at our two frontmen yesterday. Was it one league goal between them all season? We were nailed on for relegation the moment the transfer window closed at the start of the season. Ankerson has used the club's recruitment strategy as some sort of weird experiment which has gone catastrophically wrong. Nick's strange obsession with the defence being to blame for everything is blinding him from the real problems. It started with his vendetta against Jack Stephens who, ironically, seems to be one of the key factors in AFCB's recent improved results. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Grimsby Town The Verdict at 12:05:15
Why was bringing Ballard on a 'desperate gamble'? It was more of a desperate gamble keeping Armstrong and Mara on the pitch for so long after a dreadful first half. Ballard looked livelier in five minutes than the other two did all game. What has Nick got against the poor lad? Is he Nick's new Jack Stephens? |
