Today's result should not surprise anyone. One win in our last 13 games against sides that came up from league 1. The problem with the next game after the break is it is a double whammy of our poor home form mixed in with a team up from league 1 where we struggle which has been a theme for two and a bit seasons.

Yes Norwich have played the same two teams as us this week winning both on a 7-2 aggregate. We have lost 5-1 ,to those teams. Other clubs with no parachute money improve while we seem to be constantly on life support with no visible signs of improvement from one season to another.

Stuttering QPR’s home woes continue against Hull – Report
at 18:39 3 Oct 2024

I have been saying for some time that if you are lousy at home then it will be a relegation scrap. Our away form is what really saved us from going down but if that wanes this season and our home form remains the same we will drop. We are virtually two months into the season and have two points to show for it at Loftus Road. We have played Plymouth, Millwall and Hull, in theory easier opposition as none of them are expected to trouble the play off position's.The clubs with parachute money have all yet to visit.

We now face promoted Derby and Portsmouth and we know our track reason in the past two seasons.12 games and only one win if I recall correctly against sides who came up from league 1. Maybe I am in a minority of one but I don't see how anyone can be confident of us winning either game. Our default position is to disappoint and we are again delivering in that vain. All hope that Leeds might have been a turning point has gone down the plughole.

Looks like we may need a good second half of the season again like the last.

I know we're only just into October, but . . .

If you cannot win your home games then you will be in trouble in any league. This is the third season now where we are struggling. Different players and managers in this period and the poor home form keeps rolling on. It is sobering to think Ainsworth picked up two away wins in the first 8 games a year ago and we had to sack him to stay up. A year on and one win in the first 8 games is a slightly worse start.

Since the 4-0 against Leeds we have not won at home. We really are useless in our own cave and the last few managers have not been able to improve it these last few seasons.

The no ones bothered Blackburn match thingy
at 15:34 28 Sep 2024

There seems to be a philosophy amongst EFL managers that they are all Guardiola disciples playing the ball around the back despite not having players any good at it. We are like snails so the opposition can just close us down and we don't get up the pitch quick enough to be an attacking threat. In many ways Guardiola has influenced the style of play in this country. Looked good with Barcelona and City doing it but not when other clubs try it.

Anyway I digress a bit. We haven't kept a clean sheet yet so it's no surprise we only have one win with only Frey providing any sort of goal threat. Apart from last season, we have fared badly against Blackburn for over two decades with 11 men, so down to ten we were doomed to defeat against a side that is doing very well so far.

In contrast, our friends at Brentford have scored their third goal within the first 60 seconds of a match already this season. Took them 38 seconds compared to 23 and 24 seconds previously. Now that is how to start games on the front foot whereas we look like we have taken sleeping pills for these 1230 kick offs. Not won any of them...yawn

The guy who scored their first goal was making his debut. Compare that to what Celar has contributed for us. Whittaker scored plenty of goals for them last season unlike our strikers. Frey has started well but it appears Plymouth now have three guys up front who can put the ball in the net. Six goals scored in their last two home games while we can't win at home including against 10 men Plymouth.

Watching this game makes me wonder how Plymouth can find good strikers which we seem incapable of finding on a similar budget. Some really good goals too and a team that wins at home...

To be honest the game went as I expected. We saved some players for today and we were still flat. We always seem docile for 1230 kick offs and we can't win at home. Five home games and a penalty shoot out is the only win. No victories in any 90 minutes at home.

Looks like the away form is again our best hope to stay out of the bottom three. These depressing home scenarios have been going on for far too long.

Genius Eze inevitably wraps return narrative – Report

I always get the impression in these cup games that many of the Premiership teams, and those who expect to be vying for promotion in the Championship, just go through the motions and are not too fussed whether they win or not. It was clear Palace and Spurs were not giving their all like they would in the league. It was only in the last few minutes Spurs did anything at Coventry.

Of course we can say we won't win the cup but in recent times Birmingham and Wigan won the League Cup and FA Cup respectively and even Millwall reached a final. Coventry came very close to reaching the FA Cup final last season. It has been known for less fancied teams to avoid top sides right up to the semi final with the luck of the draw.

I always remember the start of the Wimbledon/Liverpool cup final when Vinnie Jones crunched the Liverpool player. The message was you may be better than us but you won't get to play your fancy Dan football against us and sure enough the Don's won.

Then I look at us and watch a supposed London derby and we stand off them and let them play. Where are the full blooded challenges that used to get the crowd going? Did we ring Palace up after the draw was made and tell them we won't lay a glove on them so they can field their strongest team? If we don't tackle their expensive players then they won't get injured.

Whilst Palace have more quality they were underperforming which is why we had more chance to win tonight. If they were playing at full throttle like they will against United then we would probably lose but they were not. They looked like they were not bothered if they got knocked out as their priority is staying in the Premiership. If we seized the initiative in their complacency they may have struggled to turn it round.

We rarely beat teams in the top division but the annoyance for me is that a lot of Premiership sides treat this cup with disdain much like we and other Championship sides. I watch these cup games and it always seems the players on both sides are only playing at 60% and neither side bothered about winning.

Palace had a strong side but they were not giving 100%
out there and we are not good enough to capitalise. There was an opportunity to win this tonight but once again we lose a London derby.

Four home games this season and no wins over 90 minutes. All very well saving players for the league game but over the years we have tossed off a cup game only to lose the following league game.

Today's highlights 1-1
at 21:15 14 Sep 2024

Yes our away form over these lean times has been the one bright spark about this club in recent times.

What antagonises me is our home form which has been chronic. I cannot get my head round why we really struggle in home games and then newly promoted sides like Oxford win their first three homes of the season against established Championship sides.

Then we have silly records like being unable to beat Plymouth yet Sheffield Wednesday can stuff them 4-0. I could go on about our peculiarities...

Rubbish game but a decent result. We lost twice to them last season and those 6 points we gifted Wednesday were a big reason for them staying up. 5 points away from home when behind in 3 games is a pleasing stat for the season to date.

I am no expert on how FFP works but I have always had the impression it is only the Premiership and Championship where clubs get hit for overspend. It always seems to me that you can splash the cash to get up from the National League and leagues 1 and 2 which is why some clubs seem to get to the Championship in no time at all. Probably not like that at all but it seems that way...

It should be noted that Larkeche was culpable for St Mirren's second goal with a hashed clearance so he stoned for it with the leveller.

While I still have concerns about us at home, the away form is very satisfying. I cannot knock the team for being behind in two away games at half time and to come back in both in the second half. Four away points and 4 goals from two sides in the Premiership last season.

I was under the impression Millwall were prepared to pay £2 million for him previously. A million for an international seems less than what we should be getting.

Plymouth see red; QPR suffer déjà vu – Report
at 16:39 26 Aug 2024

A very good read and also worth noting we have scored a lot of last minute goals against Luton as well as Derby over the years. Hopefully we can do so this week if needed.

We don't seem to win many lunchtime kick offs as if the team are not quite up to it like for a later kick off. I have seen pics of Plymouth fans on the booze on the net on their way to the game so they were probably more tanked up ready to sing while our fans were at home doing chores before going straight to the game.

Our home form in the last few years has been the stuff of nightmares so the last thing we need is 1230 kick offs. Two home games into a new season and 5 points dropped already having taken the lead in both. If we are to move away to relative safety and have no relegation concerns, this home form needs to drastically improve and it doesn't help having forwards who don't score. It is the away results that have largely kept us up but we don't want to keep relying on that. Early days with a newish team but Saturday our failings were familiar and nothing new.

The reality is Plymouth played an hour with 10 men here last season and got a draw. Today they played an hour with 10 men and 9 in stoppage time and held on. This inability in putting the ball in the net will cost us dearly making the season more difficult than it needs to be. Wednesday stuck 4 past them with less shots than we managed.
