Paul Smyth

I thought Paul Smyth tried and contributed more than Saito, Dembele, Andersen and Madsen (individually and collectively). How those 4 stayed on the pitch for as long as they did I don't know.

One or two of these subs should have been on from the start. Why wait an hour to see that Madsen and Andersen are totally ineffective ?

Bought too many players not acquitted to Championship football I'm afraid - Dembele, Saito, Madsen, Andersen, Varane and Celar - don't have the necessary combination of sharpness and strength

Bottom 3

I think we are just counting the cost of trying to get 6 new players in and comfortable. Feeling confident and comfortable takes time and Nardi, Santos, Madsen, Saito, Dembele and Celar need 2 -3 months of being in and amongst the team.

Not sure where the idea that we accept medicocrity on the pitch comes from ?

I know we're only just into October, but . . .

I think confidence has a large part to play with this squad. We are looking at a mere handful of players who are hardened to the rigours of the Championship. We can only work with the cards that we have been dealt until January. Need to keep faith in the newbies. You can see that they are trying, even Celar when he came on, he showed good character and Saito looked gutted at the end. These players are not selling us too short.

Tactical approach
at 23:40 1 Oct 2024

I think the tactics and formation are OK. The problem was that individual players weren't good enough today, pretty much throughout the team. Right back, centre back, centre mid and up front, the quality was very patchy.

Maybe that's how his name(s) work. Not every nationality uses the same system as us.

I think its red. Look at the immediate reaction of our surrounding players. They all know it. The only one who remonstrates is Frey, probably because he knows what is coming.

Nardi's shot stopping
at 23:36 28 Sep 2024

He's pulled off some amazing saves. The quadruple save today was the sign of a very good keeper. We've got a top keeper who does whatever he can both when we are in and out of possession. He's the least of our worries.

The no ones bothered Blackburn match thingy
at 19:01 28 Sep 2024

Only watched the second half as I was out until lunchtime but quite disappointed with one or two players. What we need is someone to take the bull by the horns in the middle and last thirds and to drive the players on there. The back four and Field are going about their business OK (and I liked the look of Ashby) but it needs someone or something to unite the front 4. What might help is one of the CDM's making the occasional run into the last third. If we can do that then we might have a better chance of out-playing a team up there. As it stands our 3 ACM's and lone number nine are not making sufficient headway.

Of course I don't 'know'. That is part of the lure of football. You can never know what is going to happen in a match. Reminds me of one of my favourite quotes 'If you know exactly what is going to happen, what exactly is the point in doing it ?' (Picasso).

Our little hovel in W12

I'm amazed that Wimbledon is no. 4. It is complete and utter toy-town. As for the shortcomingds of LR, who gives a sh*t ? I go to watch the football and being 8m way from the action and having all 4 sides of the stadium on top of the pitch is more important to me than whether I can stuff my face and get in and out of the bogs at half-time

I sometimes think the same. But Marti is a shrewd one. I look at him in the technical area and think he isn't pro-active enough but he is quietly going about his business and making us fit for purpose. Give him a realistic timescale and he will find a way.

Sounds up for it. I think there will be one goal in it. Hopefully goes our way. Yes, shame about Colback. I'd definitively have 2 CDM's in for this one. Maybe Field and Varane - although they both fulfil identical roles ???

Nardi on today's draw
at 18:09 22 Sep 2024

I love watching Nardi. He's on his toes all the time and tries to make us a 'man over' at the back at all times. There's no doubt that it will go wrong sooner or later and we will gift a goal but fair play to them for implementing it. The only thing is, when we do beat the press we need to have the next bank of four in space and able to take control of the middle third, which is not happening all too often.
