We could have done something about their goal which was not going in the top corner until Aribo shied away from the shot and created the slight deflection rather than standing strong and taking one in the chest or face like their defender did to one of our blockbuster shots from outside the area. This was weak and pathetic from Aribo and not the first time a player has bottled out of standing in the way of a shot.
The other reason we lost the win was because of our reluctance to hit row Z in injury time when keeping possession was more dangerous in our own last third. This is down to the manager and nobody else so he must take the blame for naivety and stupidity, after all, every team clears the ball in these scenarios, even Man City. As such, this was the game that has finished me off with Martin as his stubbornness has now cost us a vital win.
Graham Potter or Eustace will get better results from this squad, as would Corberan probably so I’m not surprised we are looking elsewhere. Lampard would keep us up too, we have a decent squad, it’s not the players.. |

The fight we are now in? We’ve played 4 games!! Sure we need to change results and I agree that Martin looks like he is struggling to know how to attack the opposition but if we win today, will the same be said of McKenna? 5 games in, no win, only 2 points?
I do have concerns but when you think we’re not up to speed yet, this seems worse than the knee jerk reactions you accused fans of with Ralph when he had lost 9-0 twice..
Favourtism indeed extends to this website and the pen of the majority of articles. As much as there’s aspects I don’t like about Martin, you have to give him a proper chance to show what he can do with a fit and ready squad which was only assembled fully one game ago!
I don’t see how this article is helpful, again, you are trying to disrupt the club and stir people up when we need everyone pulling in the same direction to survive in this league. 4 games in is not enough time to make a fair judgement despite the poor start, we dominated against quality United players last week until the penalty and we have all seen improvement. |

WestSussexSaint finally brings some balance to the usual biased reporting. THB did the same as Stephens for the 3rd goal and Bednarek had a shocker at Brentford but they both escape any form of criticism.. As soon as captain Jack is culpable, the knives are out. This article has just proved personal issues and the attempt to ‘defend’ Stephens is a farcical insult to the intelligence of the reader, which in some cases is fair, judging by some comments. At least you can be happy that he’s out for 3 games but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you reap what you sow and the constant negativity toward our captain has an effect, just a shame you’re too stupid to understand how these things manifest. Arsenal lost their first 3 games 2 years ago and ended up 2nd..
On a serious note, I feel sorry for the players because of how hamstrung they have been with the set up. I don’t mind playing out from the back or vertical ticka tacka but we have to have an outlet up the middle. These first 3 games, Armstrong and Diaz have had little service but have been out wide, isolated. Smallbone and Aribo have no outlet through the middle as a result so we have no focal point to our attack and effectively no plan of attack. In the same way with no centre forward to aim for the keeper can’t play the occasional longer pass over the top to keep the oppo guessing.
So Martin has to go back to 4-3-3 and I like the idea of shifting Sugar in to midfield so he can cover for the marauding KWP at right back too. Bring in Taylor at left back and Fernandes on the other side of Downes. Then I think whoever plays as the front 3 will have more service and impact. Dibling Archer and Cornet would work for me. I do feel for Smallbone and Arma because of how Martin has set us up so far. |

Yeah firstly it is nonsense that he snubbed us, more likely the other way round judging by Martin’s comments and there is NO way it had any affect on how the Ramsdale transfer went, that’s just silly.. I’m over the moon with Rambo and as another has mentioned, I’m far more excited about the Downes, Fernandes, Dibling, Lallana combos rather than a trudgy has been. Forest want him cos they have a 9 foot striker, we’ve been trying to rid of ours for over a year now. If JWP was that good, why is it only the relegation candidates who showed interest? RM has already confirmed we are overmanned in midfield and he doesn’t have what we need. Why the obsession with bringing every player back!? I just don’t understand it, it’s like an illness.. Think we need to do more than turn our attention elsewhere with 2 days left. It’s now panic stations as we are woefully short and Alcaraz going makes things a lot worse on the attack front. Tremendous work Saints! Nearly bought another crocked player like the eternal ‘two weeks away’ Rod Stewart. SaintMark1976, I have the same question. There doesn’t seem to be any plan or any real clue of what or who they need to build a team which can survive at the top. The one obvious thing all fans have been saying for months is a keeper who can play with his feet. A few days of the window left and we’re still bereft of the goods. As for now showing interest in a Brazilian whose club doesn’t want to sell seems farcical. Again said to be a loan with option. Have we really spent all our money? Why is Charly suddenly going now when he might have helped us get something on Saturday? Why is Onuachu still here? Now we have Sugawara and KWP is now staying does this mean he plays left back all season when we already have about 9 left backs and keep buying them? Why did we not get rid of ABK long ago? I’m praying we don’t buy any more Man City youngsters, feels like we’ve paid for Haarland for them through buying their surplus youth. This report should have been written on Saturday evening, instead released 3 days after the game has gone. Why is it all other clubs show some urgency with match reports. Are we mirroring the team and RM ethics of being too late each week. Now I have to go through all the misery of Saturday again! But joking aside, how do you win games of football without a focal point to the attack and two strikers playing 50 yards apart. We had no way of scoring at home to a relegation rival. I’m totally staggered and confused by what I saw.
Is this RM having a dig at the club for refusing to buy Carvalho and ORiley? We could have had them for 55 million instead we will buy 4 average players for 60 and fill our squad once again with championship quality. Our owners are jokers without any humour. Can’t see where a goal comes from, let alone a win, because unlike the other teams in the league, we haven’t brought in the required quality to compete, let alone survive.
We lost the game because Aribo isn’t allowed to clear the ball into row z like the top 4 teams occasionally do. RM is turning into an arrogant clown with a Rylan beard or whatever his name is.. still stunned by what he did on Saturday. Don’t blame anyone for leaving early when that is what he has to offer us. Pathetic |

Aribo was magnificent in the first half at Newcastle so he may well start again. I agree it will probably either be the same starters as last week or maybe he will bring Archer in for Bednarek. We never really know what goes on behind the scenes. The fact he went out on loan to Juventus last season suggests that either he wanted to move on or there is an issue with him.
So it may well be that he wants to go.
Fantastic talent but every time he plays I’m scared we’re gonna be down to ten men. Getting yellow carded early in games has meant he’s had to tread carefully which impacts him and the team. Seems to be easily wound up and getting red carded in a friendly takes some doing.
It is a shame because, like someone else has mentioned, we looked much more likely to unlock the Newcastle defence when he came on and drove directly. They were scared of him. Bit of a conundrum but I get the feeling that he just doesn’t fit the style of play or the dressing room connection. The money along with the Mara funds are probably needed to balance what we’ve already purchased. |

Sounds like one of those unproven gambles. Fingers crossed he is good enough. I’ll be surprised if Alcaraz stays, either he doesn’t want to or Martin doesn’t want him to. Shame as he looks our biggest attacking threat when he plays. Maybe he’s a nutter and not the right fit but we don’t have anything like him in our squad so hope he stays. |
