Russell should read Clive's Oxford United preview - Pragmatism v idealism. |

Varane has improved immeasurably since his red card. Not quite the finished article but definitely trending in the right direction. |

You and me both, Brian. In the meantime we have to learn to walk before we can run. Tonight's match was definitely a darker shade of pragmatism! [Post edited 11 Dec 21:56]

It'll be interesting to see how this pans out given that Oxford have had 11 days rest and QPR's levels tend to drop against teams in-and-around them. Field coming back in after suspension could be key to the energy levels. Fingers crossed, this bunch break bad habits and continue the recent renaissance. [Post edited 11 Dec 16:35]

Frankly, idealism is just that - idealistic - and seldom works in the real world unless you have the resources to support it. Pragmatism comes in many shades and the one on show towards the back end of last season and which has made a reappearance in recent matches, will do for me. |

Eze, Chair, BOS, etc. were all promising kids when they joined QPR. None of them were the finished article. It's what we do now. Dembele is at a similar, if not arguably better level than Chair was when Ilias was 21. In our world, that's a ready-made replacement. It's now down to the coaching team to develop him into the real deal. Moreover, we have quite a few "playmakers" at the club. Chair, Dembele, Saito, Anderson, Madsen. If we do sell Chair, I'd shake hands with Lucas and use some of the revenue to secure Koki on a permanent basis. The rest would be invested elsewhere in the team where there is more pressing need. |

That's somewhat comforting. In that case if Paal doesn't renew we could see him leave in January, with Saito/Ashby/A.N.Other covering until the end of the season. Then it's time to sweat on Ilias' future. |

Standing at 5' 5", I doubt Paal is the latter. Dunne, for sure. |

Let's not get carried away by a couple of wins. With all things being equal a fully fit and firing Ilias Chair gets into this team. The conundrum for the manager is where to play him, the system to deploy, and who drops out. On a side note, both Paal and Chair's contracts expire in the summer of 2025. In the absence of new deals, one would think that the club would look to sell at least one of them in January. Chair would fetch the better money and we have a ready made replacement in Dembele. Conversely, Saito has equipped himself well at LB so could cover there should Paal depart. Decisions, decisions... |

You weren't the only one. Norwich also woke up to a storm today. |

A fine all-round performance topped by 2 well taken goals. The lad was everywhere; leading the line, pressing, tracking back, working the channels, delivering crosses, hunting in the pockets, and trying to get on to the end of things. He came very close to a hat-trick on a couple of occasions. Injuries will probably force Marti's hand anyway but irrespective it'll take a brave man to drop him on that showing. |

Well done my team on a fine first home win of the season. A welcome tonic for those brave souls who've continued to back Marti and the team through such adversity. Rest, recover and on to the next one. |
