Good performance overall, but we have been a little negative and brought risk on ourselves with some of the back passing. Key isn't having his best game, and has looked like he might give the ball away in dangerous positions a couple of times. |

My wife just heard about another sad case from her friend. The latter's husband is a man in his 70s who has been unwell for some time. Yesterday his condition worsened and the wife called an ambulance at 6.00pm. Wife and sister in law waited up all night until the ambulance finally arrived at about 10.00 am this morning. The husband's condition in Morriston is presently unclear. I'm afraid this kind of thing simply should not be happening in a developed European healthcare system. [Post edited 14 Dec 11:57]

The problem with your argument is that the majority of immigrants do not make a net fiscal contribution due to low skills and wages. The huge influx of cheap labour has coincided with a fall in per capita productivity because companies have no incentive to seek profit through investing in new technology.. Recent years have seen high levels of public spending, high taxation levels and growing national debt. This means that public investment is constrained by tight public budgets, just as we are seeing now. In terms of the big picture. if living standards are not to fall then the national population must generate enough wealth to finance the necessary infrastructure and services. We can only finance these via borrowing for a limited period. It seems to me that we are already in a situation where living standards are falling. If immigration was the solution then we would be seeing an improvement after five years when total arrivals to the UK have exceeded the present population of Wales. To say we "need "this is to confuse gains via short-term fire-fighting with a steadily worsening long-term position that is unsustainable. [Post edited 13 Dec 20:27]

I accept that certain kinds of immigration are needed to fill certain roles and may even be desirable. Moreover there may be a good case for classifying students in a different way from others. In the past I have helped with several visa applications for persons arriving for short-term work placements., all of whom left at the end of the agreed period. However, the thing that makes me doubtful about the "UK needs immigration" argument is that we have seen over 3 million (gross) arrivals in the last five years and still have skill shortages. It is as though each new cohort is willing to do certain jobs for a short period and then moves on to something else, including in some cases non-employment. This is a kind of never-ending story that slowly becomes less and less sustainable over time because of the very large numbers involved. |

One of the few good things the new government is doing is putting pressure on banks that refuse to deal with defence companies. I had not realised that Santander and Lloyds closed more that 300 accounts of such companies last year, largely as a result of pressure from groups such as Free Palestine. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/up-to-300-defence-companies-debanked-by-hi Is it worth those of us who are customers of these banks using their free online messaging services to let them know we are not happy with this? As a Santander customer, I am deeply pissed off with virtue signalling that is detrimental to national security. |

This came out of a 2022 Labour Party Report prepared under the leadership of Gordon Brown. The Council was intended to improve communication between the devolved administrations and the UK Government, and originally entitled "The Council of the UK".. It is described on a Gov.UK webpage as a " forum that brings together governments and authorities with devolved responsibilities to determine actions for tackling some of the biggest and most cross-cutting challenges the country faces, on a structured and sustained basis." Note "the country" in singular form, meaning the UK. The Council was created by political decision rather than legislation, so there is still no legal constitutional basis for describing the territories overseen by the devolved administrations as nations. This is why political commentators call the forum a "quasi intergovernmental body. of the United Kingdom". Presumably, if there were an Act of establishment, somebody would have to decide whether N. Ireland was a nation or region, but this is deliberately left vague. Basically the current title of the forum is a sop to the nationalists that just adds to the terminological confusion about what are home countries and what are nation states. |

There is some flexibility for devolved administrations to determine whether the NHS budget is ringfenced or if some money can be used for related non-healthcare expenditure. As I recall, at the time of a significant uplift in the allocation for public services in 2018 (an extra £1.2 billion) Carwyn Jones said that the WG would not ring fence health spending, like the SNP promised to do in Scotland. It is hard to say how much difference this made, as some non-health spending, for example to reduce social inequality, may impact on health. |

So ignored the question as usual - no mention of nation. |

Must admit that my thoughts about the housing crisis had centred on how we were going to cope with the present situation, bearing in mind that the UK has admitted more immigrants than there are people in Wales in the last five years. I hadn't thought of the impact of the extra numbers the Government has factored in to arrive during their present term of office. |

Took our foot off the accelerator and just about got there. We still aren't where we need to be regarding performance., but I suppose you can't knock an away win too much. |

Why are they nations? You do not say in what sense. They are clearly not nation states, which is what many people will assume you are saying if you use the word "nation". Why doesn't the academic literature use the term "nation" when it examines the devolved administrations? Why do the devolution Acts of Parliament not use that word? |

As others have said, Argyle are not pushovers at home. We have had the advantage when it comes to possession, but not really capitalised so that they have often looked more likely to score than us. Too often our final ball has not been good enough, and when it has been our forwards don't seem to be able to sort out their feet (or in the case of Cullen head). I thought it could be another of those days, but then came a defensive error and a tidy finish by Fulton. |

I give you an authoritative link to a recent House of Commons document (above) and you cite Wiki! That is typical. |

In Killy's worldview Ireland as a whole is a nation, sitting beside three other nations on the adjacent island. Of course in reality the British Isles comprise the nation state of the Republic of Ireland and the nation state of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The UK home countries are not nation states. They are not members (as separate entities) of the UN, Council of Europe, G7, G20, NATO, OECD, OSCE, and the WTO. They were not members of the EU. They are recognised individually by some sports governing bodies, but not the International Olympic Committee. Some who use nation to mean a cultural entity may count the home countries as nations, but I think this causes confusion with the more widespread usage of nation to mean nation state. For example, regarding confusion, take the the Six Nations Championship (rugby), which includes two nation states, one hybrid entity, and three UK home countries. The BBC is one of the biggest culprits for adding to the confusion. Edit. Have to hold my hands up and say my original post contained a mistake. which I now corrected. [Post edited 10 Dec 12:20]

For practical purposes, yes, but this isn't quite right regarding the law. The act of entry by irregular means is still illegal, but we refrain from imposing a penalty in line with Article 31 of the 1951 UN Refugee Convention. Also, if the asylum claim is rejected then A31 does not apply and we could in theory still proceed to prosecution, although in practice we don't. https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-is-it-illegal-to-cross-the-cha |
