Yeah you need to keep well hydrated whatever your diet to avoid that.

Depends on your goals.

For you you'll be fine with a whole protein source with every meal: beef, chicken, turkey, eggs, fish etc.

People who want to build/maintain muscle need about 2g of protein per kg of bodyweight (e.g. 70kg guy - roughly 140g protein), which is when the protein shakes etc come into it.

You don't need to fast to lose weight. Bit of a fad IMO as others have said.

We already fast anyway when we sleep. Provided you get a good 6-10 hours a night that's when your body will repair, grow, cleanse of waste products etc. No more fasting is really needed.

When you're awake make sure you're eating right. Always eat a lot of protein and healthy fat (nuts, avocado, coconut oil etc) and structure the carbs you eat around training/energy expenditure.

No point eating bananas, weetabix, sugary yoghurts and stuff like that if you have a desk job or anything like that. Insulin spike + no energy used = body fat storage.

Nelson Mandela RIP
at 22:39 5 Dec 2013

You don't need to be a black South African to understand and appreciate what Mandela stood for.

You don't see what's so great about him? Perhaps that's because he campaigned his entire life for the basic human rights, liberties and equalities that we all take for granted. It doesn't need to be complicated for it to be worthy.

South Africa may not be a utopia but nowhere is. Yet it's certainly a better place than it was before.

Mandela could have quite easily sought violent revenge against whites after leaving prison and the situation would be far worse if he had done. Learning to set your differences and grudges aside in order to achieve success is something everyone can aspire to.

A truly great man. RIP.

Depression.
at 14:56 17 Nov 2013

Everyone suffers from stress/depression at some point so the first thing you should do is realise you aren't alone in that. External factors that we can't control hit us from time to time and they can be difficult to deal with.

I take it you're a youngster? I think I can help you. A little under 2 years ago (aged 18/19) I pretty much stopped posting on this site. I was in poor physical shape, had low self-esteem, always argued with people, had no great relationships on the side. I took myself out of the things that brought me down and thought objectively. Instead of having a drink or a smoke or other short-term fixes, I thought:

what could I do to benefit me in the long term?

I joined a gym, got myself in shape, corrected my diet, cut out vices, improved my sleep (it's unreal how much these contribute to positive/negative feelings)...this has a fantastic knock-on effect. I valued my family and friends more, my university work benefitted, I was way more confident in myself and people pick up on this and it attracts them to you. Small, consistent steps make big improvements.

I find this sort of approach works much better than quickly jumping on a doctor's course of anti-depressents. I've seen loads of people I know feel sh*t about themselves, chug back on those drugs and expect the world to change. It doesn't come as a massive surprise when, inevitably, the world doesn't change. Why? Because they've changed nothing in their lives. They haven't looked at what makes them happy, what makes them unhappy, and made changes based on that.

I suppose the message would be, find your interests, find what you love doing, think about the positive things and people in your life and concentrate on them. Block out and ignore anything or anyone negative.

Feel free to chuck me a PM if it helps bro.

Why we lost today
at 22:52 3 Nov 2013

Agreed with OP. Spineless rubbish. Very few players can come out of that with their dignity intact.

Too many passengers in that team who can't put a shift in when it matters. Might be good on paper but if you can't roll your sleeves up when the going gets tough like Cardiff's midfield did then there's no point even turning up.

Not gonna mention individuals, you've nailed it all in that respect.

Manics
at 11:24 17 Sep 2013

I suppose anyone can be a socialist - it depends on what you're prepared to give up. Tony Benn giving up his peerage for instance.

FTR I have absolutely zero interest in the Manics' new stuff, time to call it a day really. They did a lot of mouthing off about careerist rock bands in their early days and that's what they've morphed into. F*ck em.
