NAPOLI!!!!!! on 18:36 - Dec 16 by hitchinjack | I have just spoken to an Arsenal friend who went last week. They stayed in a nice hotel near the marina area. They felt relatively safe in this area and didn't venture far from the sight of the hotel the night before the match. On match day they made their way to the docks area which has police/security there to ensure that no Napoli fans get in. There there are bars that you can drink and eat in before being taken by bus under guard to the ground. The bus journey should take 15 mins but they take you an awkward route as to not come across any of the home fans. You will not arrive before the game kicks off to again ensure no meetings of fans. After the game you will be kept in for an hour before being bused back to the port. There are taxis at the port that will then take you back to your respective hotels. Arsenal took 700 fans last week, all but 20/30 took the port option. Those who didn't were attacked. 7 are still in hospital(I don't know extent of injuries). Even those that took a taxi straight to the ground were attacked as there is only one drop off point and no Napoli fan will take a taxi to the game. On the next day no problems walking freely around the place. He encouraged me to go but urges that all Swansea fans take the "bussed in" option as otherwise the risk of attack is high. Apparently they won't just attack like minded fans, everyone is fair game!! |
Hi All Been asked to post by HitchinJack , I am the Arsenal fan who went to Napoli with Arsenal last week . I have been abroad with Arsenal every year since 1992 ( sorry not rubbing it in honestly ) and so have been to many dodgy places Turkey ,Belgrade , Russia etc . Napoli is on a different level and whilst many Napoli fans are welcoming as I have seen on here , MANY are not !!!! They also do not play by the rules and anybody is fair game ...ANYBODY ! If you go and keep a very low profile the night before the game which means stay in the hotel , or drink in restaurants or hidden away places in small numbers you should be ok ... The night before the game with us Napoli had lads out looking for Arsenal If you go on the organised transport which is laid on by Napoli police you will be absolutely fine ,,,,just be prepared for hours of waiting and the most crazy escort ever ... we had 7 coaches and potentially 20 police vans , 30 cars full of police and a helicopter directly overhead there and back . We only reached the ground late and the word was that was because if we arrived early the coaches would be bricked The area around the station and Piazza Garibaldi where the cheaper hotels are is a nightmare .....I laughed about this when people told me ...but when we went it was !!! Do NOT go to the game on the Metro and nor by cab ...the away end is by CURVA A which is their Ultras end , the taxis will NOT go there as no Napoli fans travel in taxis ,,,so when they see a taxi , its the away fans and they attack it . So the taxis take you to the end of this dual carriageway where the Napoli lot wait and attack you . I personally know 2 taxis full of Arsenal attacked , one lot before they got out of the cab , the other lot bottled within seconds of getting out ! Sometimes you think a group of 50 together is safety in numbers , in Napoli its not They will come to you as they did to the Emirates where 100 smashed up a Pie Shop and Deli full of families , pushing 3 teenage girls off chairs so they could attack fathers aged 50 ...this is what they are like ...( by the way our lads pub was nearby and they knew it but decided the family pie shop was more fun ) Daytime wandering around is ok as long as keep to main areas and keep an eye on people , we went to VESUVIUS and wandered around the city the day after the game no probs ! The atmosphere in the ground is awesome !!! We went via Rome and got the train and overall had a great time and would go again for sure If you take 1500 or so I think what I have said above will be the case for you lot , ENJOY !!!!

NAPOLI!!!!!! on 19:14 - Dec 16 with 6555 views | SwansNZ | From a playing point of view, this is a great draw. If we want to win the cup , then we need to beat these sides. If we lose to Napoli, then hey ho, no big deal. We’ve already had a good run, just getting to/through the group stages, and we can concentrate on winning the FA cup and a top 6 place in the PL. If we win, then it will be yet another famous achievement to add to a growing list, in the last few years.

Cheers mate, sounds a bit hair-raising. What's your opinion,on staying outside of Napoli and getting to the docks on the day of the game, that would work, wouldn't it?

NAPOLI!!!!!! on 19:15 - Dec 16 with 6549 views | KeyserSoze | A few points: Napoli fans - It's all good that you're being very welcoming saying Naples is safe etc, but can you give us the actual names of the areas to avoid? And the areas that we will be welcome? Saying the whole of Naples will welcome us certainly isn't true. I was in Naples a couple of months ago and it's a lovely place but it is hard to relax at night and I wouldn't recommend getting too drunk. If you do you're more likely to get attacked by locals rather than actual Napoli fans. I've only been over to Malmo/Copenhagen out of the euro trips we've had, but i'd suggest the freedom of drinking in the bars with hundreds of us singing with flags draped all over the pub and surrounding area will 100% not be tolerated. It's a bit of a catch 22 - if we walk around in small groups we're vulnerable from the local 'gangsters' as they've been described on this thread who do not welcome tourists and see them as a target. And if we get together in a couple of pubs and form a big group we become a target for Napoli Ultras. I'm undecided about going but if I do i'm not taking the bus route, i'm going to watch the football and if I have to miss 1/3 of a historic game to stay safe it's just not financially worth it.

Too right. Rampaging down the streets head to toe in Roma kit ;) Look, I'm sure everyone going is aware of the dangers that can come with a trip to watch football in a major Italian city. I trust most people going will be smart and use common sense.

NAPOLI!!!!!! on 19:29 - Dec 16 with 6486 views | exiledclaseboy | In my experience of Italy I'd be more worried about crossing the roads than anything else. Road markings and lights etc are just suggestions to Italians, not compulsory. Not been to Naples though. Sounds more like Deadwood. I'm scared just reading this thread. Was thinking of taking the wife as well as we haven't had a trip abroad for a while.

NAPOLI!!!!!! on 19:38 - Dec 16 with 6430 views | Tokijo | There should be plenty of security presence in Swansea for the home tie then. Think St Gallen fans caused a few problems in Wind St, so PC Plod should be on their guard for Napoli fans staying in Swansea for the home tie week earlier.
