With a bit of luck the ones who aren't arsed about the condition of a human being after he sustains a concussion will with any luck trip over on the way to the game on Saturday and sustain concussions of their own, I'm not arsed to be honest as we have other fans to replace them, sheeeeeeshhhh!

I know you didn't ask me, but I disagree, I think we'll miss him. No, he doesn't do any of those things as well as the others, but he's much more versatile than the others, more of a utility player, and our set-piece/dead ball specialist.

I think people are being harsh on him 'cause he played (I think) fairly poorly against Malmo. We'll see what happens over the season, but apart from the odd game where he goes missing (as he seems to on occasion), I think he'll come good, like last season.

JDG is not a Swans player. He is a Villareal player. He is loaned to Swansea, but as much a Swansea player as Gwion Edwards is a St. Johnstone player. If Laudrup truly wanted him he would have bought him for 6M.

Of course noone is happy he is injured and everyone hopes he will recover soon. If for nothing else humanitarian grounds.

He is a versatile player without doing anything particularily well. And calling him a set-piece/dead ball specialist is like calling Bony our new goalkeeper. JDG should not be allowed anywhere near a dead ball. I am not unhappy to have JDG in the squad as he provides some cover for Britton, Canas, Shelvey and (perhaps) Ki.

Poll: Are any further transfers needed in this window?

Not arsed on JDG, sorry.

Michu is number one for AM role. Britton is the master of his trade and Shelvey is looking like the real deal. Throw in Ki who is the most technically efficient player in the squad makes for JDG being well down the pecking order.

JDG is far ahead of KI in the pecking order!!!

The fact that Ki started in league just 19 games last season and JDG started 31 games suggests that Laudrup rates JDG higher than KI.

Concussions are horrible things, hopefully it's not too serious and will only sideline him for a couple of weeks.

There's a few on here who don't let facts (or the evidence in front of their own eyes) get in the way of their misguided opinions.

The shame is that while most of us want all of our players to play well, there's a minority who will be sitting in their seats (or listening on the radio) praying for certain players to make any kind of mistake so they can harp on about it here afterwards.

Twas ever thus. De Vries and Scotland suffered from this amongst others. Anything good they did was ignored because they flapped at crosses, didn't run around enough, etc.

JDG took the majority of our set pieces last season and while he wasn't perfect, I remember a few goals direct from corners and a lovely direct free kick against Stoke. That's better than we've achieved the last few seasons, when our best dead ball players were loanees (Borini, Sigurdsson). Whenever JDG was off the pitch, I can't remember any improvement in our set piece play.

Any little mistake JDG (or Dyer) make this season is going to be seized on, while the same people will w*nk over every pass Shelvey completes. Fun times.

init, ppl say he was a flat track bully, but correct me if im wrong but are we not a team outside of the top 6 therefore could be classed as a flat track team, so to have someone who can get us points against teams around us is more than handy

Agreed Perch. Unfortunately the big international tournaments are where UEFA and FIFA rake in the cash (not to mention the money international teams generate for national FA's), so we're stuck with this nonsense.

Why would I possibly wish injury upon Dyer?

Is it impossible for you to actually construct an a logical point rather than merely making snide posts?

Come on, tell me what is 'wrong' with what I wrote.

You don't honestly feel JDG is better at anchoring the midfield and recycling play than Leon, is a better presence than Shelvey who is pinging 40 yard balls for fun and is currently in tremendous form or even more ludicrous, consider him to be a better option than Michu playing in behind Bony?

Coming off from the bench Ki's composure and efficiency with the ball is second to none, Canas has the steel if required and Pozuelo has shown in his brief outings to possess supreme talent.

Come on clever bollox, why exactly should we be crying into our pillows because JDG is going to be out for a week, two weeks tops?

I'm waiting for your thought provoking response.

Listen up mouthy twaat, I'm simply saying you're not arsed if jdg plays or not, he's firstly a human being with a head injury, looks not to be serious but in context you look like the village simpleton that you are, its not a 'snide comment' about dyer as you publicly stated you think he's 'a weak link and he's not worth diddly, so Mr laudrup is a sh1t manager is what you're saying by keeping dyer and re loaning jdg, I'm stating that football matters aside one of our players are injured and you "are not arsed" you cretinous pr1ck

Concussion De Guzman

Jonathan de Guzman is discharged
ANP

Update: Tuesday 13 Aug 2013, 23:53

Jonathan de Guzman Portugal with a concussion in Faro for the exhibition game on Wednesday at the final training of Orange. This happened in a collision with Dirk Kuyt. The two came hard with their heads together.

De Guzman was even briefly unconscious and was, when he was conscious again, with a stretcher and carried from the field to the hospital. It is now reasonably well with him, he is well approachable. Kuyt was again fairly quickly, but does have a wound to his eye socket, under his left eyebrow.

The anxiety is good in Orange. When both players were lying motionless, after the collision assistant coach Patrick Kluivert even screamed for an ambulance.

Wijnaldum replaces De Guzman
Had coach Louis van Gaal at a press conference are chosen more than half an hour before training announced and there was also De Guzman part of it. He is now replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum.

de Guzman ruled out of United clash

. . . loan star misses opening game after injury suffered while on Holland duty

The decision to stage international friendlies days before the start of the Barclays Premier League season claimed its first casualty after Jonathan de Guzman was ruled out of the Swans’ opening game.
The midfielder, on loan from Villarreal, was taken to hospital after he suffered concussion following a clash of heads with Dirk Kuyt during a training session with Holland ahead of their friendly with Portugal.
It means de Guzman will be sidelined for the next seven to ten days, meaning he is unavailable for Saturday’s curtain-raiser against defending champions Manchester United at the Liberty Stadium.
The 25-year-old could also miss next week’s Europa League Play-Off first leg against Romanian side Petrolul Ploiesti on home soil.
Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey scored a stunning long-range goal on Tuesday night as England Under-21s thumped Scotland 6-0.
The Swans will hope that Wales quartet Ashley Williams, Neil Taylor, Ben Davies and Jazz Richards all come through tonight’s friendly with the Republic of Ireland unscathed, while Michel Vorm is in action for Holland and club record signing Wilfried Bony features for Ivory Coast in their friendly against Mexico in America.

Post-concussion syndrome, also known as postconcussive syndrome or PCS, and historically called shell shock,[1] is a set of symptoms that may continue for weeks, months, or occasionally a year or more after a concussion — a mild form of traumatic brain injury (TBI).[2][3][4] Symptoms of PCS, which is the most common entity to be diagnosed in people who have suffered TBI,[3] may occur in 38—80% of mild head injuries.[5] A diagnosis may be made when symptoms resulting from concussion last for more than three months after the injury,[6] or it may be made starting within a week[7] or ten days of trauma.[8] In late, persistent, or prolonged PCS (PPCS), symptoms last for over six months,[7][9] or by other standards, three.[10]
The condition can cause a variety of symptoms: physical, such as headache; cognitive, such as difficulty concentrating; and emotional and behavioral, such as irritability. As many of the symptoms in PCS are common to, or exacerbated by, other disorders, there is a risk of misdiagnosis. Though there is no treatment for PCS itself, symptoms can be treated; medications and physical and behavioral therapy may be used, and patients can be educated about symptoms and their usual prognosis. The majority of PCS cases resolve after a period of time.
It is not known what causes PCS symptoms to occur and persist,[11] or why some people who suffer a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) develop PCS while others do not.[12] The nature of the syndrome and the diagnosis itself have been the subject of intense debate since the 19th century. However, certain risk factors have been identified; for example, preexisting medical or psychological conditions, expectations of disability, and older age all increase the chances that someone will suffer PPCS. Physiological and psychological factors present before, during, and after the injury are all thought to be involved in the development of PCS.[13]

Hey guys. I just wanna let you know that I’m feeling better after I collided against Dirk Kuyt while training for tonight’s friendly against Portugal. I was taken to hospital for tests and the initial diagnosis is a mild concussion. Unfortunately I will miss the game as I need seven to ten days rest. It also means that I miss the season opener with Swansea City against Manchester United. I still hope to play as soon as possible!

De Guzman is an excellent option to have. He can play a deeper role well, and also offers good cover for the advanced midfielder/support attack role of which he impressed me last season when called to play behind Michu.

His chances of first team football this season may be more limited because of the increased competition, but he is certainly a good option to have, especially as he can be an option with set plays.

Speedy recovery to him.
