Bath City V Swansea City XI 13:24 - Jul 31 with 2119 viewsBS5_Jack

Report Taken from Bath City website

"City's run of pre-season draws was ended this evening when a youthful Swansea City side struck twice in the closing 20 minutes to run out 3-2 winners. City shaded an entertaining first half and lead at the interval thanks to Dan Ball's header from a Ross Stearn corner on 23 minutes. At the break ex-Roman striker Jake Reid was introduced but it was the visitors who drew level through Donelly within three minutes of the restart. Just eight minutes passed before City regained the lead though, Ben Addlesbury's looping header finding the net. Josh Low then spurned two great openings to increase the advantage, twice racing clear on goal, only for keeper Zabret to block his first effort before the midfielder lifted the second chance over the bar. The same player then saw a shot come back off the foot of the post before Bray made it 2-2 with 18 minutes left. And it was the Premier League team who snatched the win eight minutes from time thanks to Donelly's second goal."

My Thoughts

I was at the game last night and didn’t notice anymore Swansea fans there but I could be wrong. Both Bath goals came from set pieces chucked into the box and that is where Bath biggest thread came from in the first half and second half Josh Low was looking lively making some great runs in behind our young defense. I would just like to mention Aaron Brown the Bath city left back who had a good game for the home side.

Swansea played a similar system to the first team with the majority of swans players looking comfortable on the ball on what was a good pitch, in the first half Swansea were knocking the ball around well without really troubling the Bath City defense to much and I say it was fair that Bath went in at half time as they had an effort well cleared of the line.

As I was walking back from Charlie’s bar after a very nice and not too expensive pint of Thatcher’s Old Rascal I heard the crowd politely applause and when I finally returned to the terrace the two bath city fans I had been chatting with during the first half told me that Rory Donnelly had scored a great volley after a cross from the right hand side ( I did not see this goal). Soon after Bath equalized from a set piece after Ben Addlesbury got a free header to loop over Zabret. Swanseas second goal came from Alex Bray after what can only be described as a wonder turn from Donnelly inside the penalty area left his marker for dead allowing him to cut the ball across goal for bray to produce a simple finish.

On reflection it was a very close encounter that at one point Bath should have put to bed if Ryan Low had taken his three chances but Swansea fought their way back into the game and Donnelly got a good winner at the end after he had dropped into the second striker role after James Loveridge had come on up front.

Very good performance from Donnelly but was some what disappointed by Gorre who looks like he has a lot of talent but kept running into dead ends.

Twerton Park is a great old ground that still has terracing and also sells some great cider.

I live in Oldfield park the majority of the year which is a few minutes walk from Twerton. It seems the only times the Swans play in the South West is when I'm back in Swansea!

Trundle could still do a job..
