Who said anything about them being attacked? I thought the issue was that certain establishments want to stop them entering? Is this because it puts the soldiers themselves at risk of being attacked or could it be that some squaddies like to give it the big "I am" sometimes and can be more trouble than their worth?
Ok Clasie, the point was, they started wearing these t-shirts before squaddies were being targeted by nutters. And if you can't see DJ 's point either you're being deliberately obtuse or you had too much beer the night you said that!
My point was that there must be a reason why certain establishments are apparently banning squaddies (if indeed this is actually happening). Is it because they're being targeted by idiots looking for a fight, in which case I'd agree that the wrong people are being banned. Or is it because they (or some of them, because I don't want to generalise and upset Djack again) cause a bit of trouble themselves?
And I still have no idea why they wear shirts identifying themselves as squaddies. What's the purpose, if not to draw attention to themselves? I mean, don't get me wrong, as far as I'm concerned people are free to wear whatever they want I'm just intrigued as to why they do it.
As always, other opinions are available or failing that you can just call me a dick like Djack did in lieu of an actual opinion.

I gave you my opinion you just didn't like it and it wasn't about the original thread but has never stopped anyone on this board before.
FWIW I believe many/most of these stories (linked with not offending "communities") are rubbish. There have always been pubs/clubs which have barred servicemen and generally it has been done to maintain a varied mix of clientèle and not just large groups of drunk raucous servicemen.
"Or is it because they (or some of them, because I don't want to generalise and upset Djack again) cause a bit of trouble themselves?"
It's strange when a group of young plumbers or civil servants or whoever else go out as a group and get into bother they don't get castigated in the same manner. So why do young men who happen to be soldiers/sailors get bracketed.
... and finally (the pot/kettle moment) you have never shied away when someone has made an idiotic generalisation and you have ,on occasions, called someone a name (tvvat , even c@nt!) so please don't get all faux offended

Plumbers etc aren't trained killers, and squaddies have plenty of history for causing mayhem. One of my mates was a Para, the stories he tells!!
Clasie, maybe they are proud of what they do (re t-shirts) and want people to know. If it's uniforms, maybe they have just come back off tour and want to grab their first decent beer in months? Some establishments have banned them so as not to cause offence, the only people likely to be offended are....? I'll leave that to you, but seeing our forces personnel out and about is never going to offend me, I might say thank you and tell them they have my full support though.
You seem to think that I've taken against servicemen, this is not the case. I wouldn't support any establishment that bans soldiers or other service types purely because they're in the services. That's just daft. I am, however, hugely sceptical of stories that claim servicemen have been banned from anywhere for fear of offending "minorities". As Djack has rightly pointed out, most of these stories turn out to be utter bilge. There was one on the EE forum last week that Oldjack posted about a pub in Leicester that had allegedly banned the armed forces from drinking there. Naturally it turned out to be complete bulldust and the owners and their staff received threats.
If a serviceman wants to wear a t shirt identifying themselves as such then that's their right. I find it odd and I wonder about their motivation in doing so but that's just my opinion. I don't see serving soldiers being "bracketed" anywhere in a negative sense. Quite the opposite in fact, most people are keen to praise "our brave boys".
And Djack, when I worked in Tesco we were banned from a couple of establishments for periods of time because nights out generally used to end in drunken rucks and other types of alcohol fuelled nonsense. The old Fforest Hotel wouldn't let us in for years and the Marquis used to get a bit arsey with us too.
As for plumbers and civil servants on a night out, well I doubt either group wears t shirts identifying their occupation but I digress. I tend to avoid civil service dos for the most part because many of them don't get out much and on the one or two occasions per year that they do, they tend to act like complete tw*ts. Now that's a generalisation I am qualified to make!
So to sum up, I don't think that soldiers or other servicemen should be banned from anywhere for fear of offending anyone. Neither do I believe that this is actually happening, although I'm sure someone can find an isolated example from somewhere. Whether it will stand up to scrutiny is another matter. I don't get why service personnel feel the need to wear t shirts identifying themselves as such when they're off duty but it is of course their right to do so.
ECB no need for the flowers as you and I are fine mate. My issue was (apart from some alcohol) that you always (quite rightly) castigate fallacious/bigoted/hearsay type thinking and/or posts but I felt that on an aspect of this topic you trotted out some rubbish and it got under my skin. Strangely enough I think you suffered my ire with our "pillock" posters - they make me seethe but I think ( Uxy is right here ) "You can't educate pork". You on the other hand have and utilise your braincells so if I perceive, in your post(s), what I think is bollocks I get more upset at you.
Strangely enough I remember going on a leaving do down the Fforest when I worked at Tesco and don't remember a ban, but that said, in no way do I doubt your veracity.
So to reiterate - all is well.

We don't know the real truth about fracking, neither side gives us anything but a biased opinion. If we can do it without doing too much damage and it provides the cheap energy and income they say, then it's a very good thing. If those against are right, we should stop it straight away. As ever the truth is somewhere in the middle.
