Absolutely. current health, age etc shouldn't matter.
If crime warrants, say, a 5 year sentance, give them 5 years. If they die in prison then so be it. It'll be on on record forever they were given 5 years.
15 months becuase of ill health etc kind of diminsishes the seriousness I think.

If you had read on you would have read that the maximum for the offences was 2 years because you can only be sentenced at what the sentence was for those crimes at the time the offence was created, not what the sentence is now. It is also the law that if you plead guilty the sentence is reduced by an amount. His age and health had very little to do with the reduction from 24 months to 15 months. |  | | |

I can't nor won't argue with the distress to the victims but does it make any real difference to the way they would feel if he'd got 2 years (max sentence possible) rather than 15 months?

he was never going to get 25 years for those offences, i don't think you get that much for full sex with a minor so touching them was never going to be in the same league. Reading it i expected him to get more like 5 years but his life and legacy is ruined now which has to be some consolation to the victims and their families, not ideal obviously but i don't think much could have been done to make up for what happened to them |  | | |

No. It means that upon release he won't be barred from going within 100 yards of a school, going abroad or using a computer, etc.. Only 45 have been issued in the last seven years so it's not a common measure.

Well, this is the crux of the issue. I don't think anybody is upset with the judge if he's given his maximum sentence, we are upset with who the hell decides you only get 15 months for molesting numerous children as young as 9. I would assume a paedophile has made that guideline up.
If he's too old for prison, horsewhip him and chop his fcking dick off the filthy old c@nt.

If you read the judgement the maximum they could have given was 2 years because that was the tariff for the offence at the time of committing it. The same offences now would be a 10 year tariff. The reduction to 15 months are because of the guilty plea and his age, so the Judge gave about as much as he could by law. The reality is though that this man got a way with Rape which they decided not to bring to court in the end. |
So by the logic of only being able to sentence people to the tariff available at the time of the offence would somebody who committed murder in the 50s whose crime is only uncovered recently be hanged? |  |
