Rob Green on 17:37 - Dec 26 by gobbles | He stepped back over his own line, then found himself off the pitch when Fortune took a place on the line. And when he couldn't rech the ball, rather than punching it, he flapped. Last time I saw a goal like that it was in a kids' match. Fortune certainly didn't push him. The best you could hope for is saying he obstructed Green, but when you compare that to players guiding the ball out of play, it was nothing. Soft, soft, soft. |
For me it's a goal. Keepers should clear everything in their path.

Rob Green on 17:19 - Dec 26 by Jamie | A good keeper controls his area and commands his defence. Green does neither. Poor keeper. |
Agreed. What gets me is that he tried to flick the ball over the bar?? He always seems to embarrass himself and us. Cesar back in goal Harry.
Rob Green on 17:49 - Dec 26 with 1257 views | WestonsuperR | Totally at fault for the 2nd, could do nothing about the first and played ok otherwise. The goalkeeping for the 2nd was disgraceful, he was clearly expecting a foul and tried and failed to make it clear he was being fouled, you just can't take that chance though.

Wouldn't actually blame him for first but thought his positioning was poor. Was actually nowhere near saving it. When you consider the distance it was from, he should have been close. Great strike though and not Green's fault, just think a half-decent keeper (which Green certainly isn't) may have saved it.

Watch it again. His first move is to make a big step back.

I'd have to say that since he's been at the club, he has done nothing to suggest he is a strong character mentally. Arsene wouldn't like him.
Rob Green on 17:57 - Dec 26 with 1216 views | BlackCrowe | Not at fault at all for the first goal, completely at fault for the second from what I saw. Made a couple of decent saves but never have I seen an Rs keeper so unwilling to try and catch a ball.

Agree that it was a great shot but when you saw the Foster save soon after, it was noticeable how much further off the line he was when he blocked Mbia's shot. Green made the goal look huge as he was so close to his line.

Will you please STOP SHOUTING. If I see Green's scarecrow heas appearing atop that goalkeeper's jersey once more I'm going to be physically ill. Rob Green's All You Can Eat - Just Help Yourselves.

Rob Green on 18:44 - Dec 26 with 1119 views | amhoop | Just watched goals again, first goal good strike, but poor foot work from Green, if he takes a step to the left and then dives he probably saves it. Second goal NOT a foul, Green under no pressure steps over his own line, the wba player then holds his ground on the line.

No he didn't - while Green was a total wimp for not mullering him in the first place. - Fortune doesn't just "hold his ground" (Steve Clarke quote) - he backs into him. If that was in the outfield and Green was a defender going for a header, he would have got a free-kick all day long.

will agree with that, always expecting an error. Does not take away the fact he was fouled for todays 2nd goal and it was no way his fault.

Green was already in his own net when he came into shot there. There was another side-on view that shows it better. Player does not have to get out of the way for a goalkeeper.

players don't ( as per the laws of the game ) have to be backed / shoved backwards either. the WBA player takes TWO steps backwards, that fcks the ' STOOD HIS GROUND ' argument [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

He was clearly fouled when he jumped for the ball.

Whether it was a foul or not is debatable. Whether it is p*ss poor goalkeeping from a p*ss poor keeper isn't.

No, just my opinion. As it happens, I also think it was a foul. But Green is, and always will be, a very poor keeper, despite the occasional great save. ...in my opinion.
