our bad luck from last season is still hanging around it seems, 1 win from John Coleman so far............dare I say, not good enough.

How can luck affect whether something is good enough or not?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

Dezzy, you're a tosser But i'll still buy you and 3L a pint if you're at Hare Hill on Sunday.

Which translates as: 'roccy will be at the cricket on Sunday'.

I think 3L will be in Torquay.

I realise I contradicted myself a lil bit, was just frustrated that our luck hasnt changed, I do take back the last bit though, still fully behind JC, our luck HAS to change soon, least our performances are good enough, results should come.

Life is a game of fate.

We're only two games in, but a trip to the English Riviera for a second away game on the spin is never an enticing prospect. Therefore, you've got to view the two points gained so far as a little disappointing at worst.

I know it's extremely early doors and, perhaps, it really is too early to be commenting on a points tally at this stage. But, I guess, it's like the old relationship adage - the problems that are there at the beginning will always be there! Now, I'm not saying there are problems per se, just areas that could be addressed to make us better.

From what I've seen of us so far, and reports from esteemed pals at the game last night, we are indeed an improved unit. We've got the players, the spirit and the Plan A to cause teams problems.

However, competitively, three games in, you need to look at the goals we've scored. We got three against a Championship side, granted, but two of them were penalties. Other than that, we have relied on two wonder strikes from a midfielder to get us on the scoresheet.

Given that we're effectively playing three up front, it is worrying we have played three games without any of them scoring and three halves of football without anyone scoring at all.

JC has said he doesn't expect any new additions before the window closes (unless the budget allows - which tells me the players he wants are currently asking for to much money).

However, I feel we certainly need a back-up for Adebola and some natural wide players. The full backs cannot, at this level, be expected to provide both attacking and defensive width. If we get players in who are more used to playing in a wider midfield role we can mix balls from out wide with the direct route through Adebola, this gives us two attacking options on the pitch at the same time - making us exceptionally dangerous and very difficult to play against.

Now watch us batter Torquay with all three forwards scoring...

I think therein shows the fine margins in football.

Had the ref blown 30 seconds earlier, we'd have been crowing on here about a performance away at one of the favourites, where for large periods of the game, we'd passed them off the park, we'd won 90% of the 50-50's, we'd had chances to make it 3 or 4 in the second half, seen a wonder goal from Tutte (and highlighted that our midfield is getting goals when it wasn't last season), see a wonder save by Lillis with the last kick of the game and we'd be sat on four points from what was acknowledged as a tough start to the season since the day the fixtures were released.

As I said last night, there's enough already to see that there have been massive improvements since last season, and more importantly, the accusations that the playing staff rightly faced last season have been addressed.Yes we can still do the odd bit of tinkering, but I think we have seenenough already to know that we are in safe hands.

I completely agree. However, even had Tutte's goal been enough to grab three points last night - I feel the points I've raised would still be valid going forward.

Don't get me wrong, I am completely behind JC, the players and everything that's happening at the moment - I was just offering my thoughts on how we can improve further still.

I did say that four points from our first three games, given the opposition and locations, would represent a decent return. I still stand by that.

The point about none of our front three scoring in three games is the key. Chances have been created but not taken, which would have massively relieved the pressure on the rest of the team and created a feelgood factor which we all desperately need after last season.

At 90+4 minutes last night, the feelgood factor turned into one of head-shaking disbelief.

It doesn't matter to me how we create chances, whether it's traditional wide men crossing the ball or the way JC has set us up, quick interchanges to create an opening. Preferably, we should be doing both, and to that effect I'd have Putterill starting ahead of Donnelly

I agree - Putterill much more direct and offers more wide.

slightly unfair on GD however as i am sure his preference would be playing off Dele Adebola in a 442.

Early days we are unbeaten and that first win is just around the corner.

Get that first win and we will be off and running.

Interesting that Torquay also started with 2 draws!!!

Agreed, we do seem to be creating chances but they're not quite going in. Grimes seems to score in streaks and he needs that bit of luck to get his first one. The team are still getting used to each other and it will take a while to hit off fully.

If there's one thing I'm not worried about this season, it is us scoring goals. I can genuinely say after last night's game that I can see us battering a team before too long. There are such fine margins to these things, unfortunately. Head down, and move on.
