RIP Norman Bodell 12:25 - Dec 15 with 608 viewsEllDale

Just learned that he’s passed on aged 86.
One of the earliest Dale players that I remember. Went onto have a successful coaching career.

Sorry to hear that. He was in the team that played in the League Cup Final v Norwich. His mother-in-law used to live next door to me and he visited occasionally. He was manager at Barrow at one time, but probably most of his time was spent at Birmingham and West Brom.

RIP Norman.

He was a really nice guy Norman. Solid defender for Dale early sixties. I can remember him running some coaching sessions for local amateur players at Redbrook around the late sixties I think. He must have kept his eye on our results in the Observer because he usually had a word if you scored or got a mention. RIP Norman.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?

That's a brilliant article, thanks for finding and posting it

Reminded me that i was at that Wolves v Man City League Cup Final in 1974. At the time, you could buy a combined coach & match ticket for Wembley (can't remember if it was Ellen Smith's or Yelloway) but i was stood in the Wolves end when John Richards scored the winner... chaos!

Had no idea Bodell was involved with them, and never saw him play for Dale (just before my time) but his story shows the ups and downs of football and how much depends on attitude and appreciation of being involved

RIP

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

Back in the days when there would be a full page every Wednesday in the “Observer” devoted to the town’s two amateur football leagues.
